Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN CLINE, OF PANORA, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BAG-FILLERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,986, dated December 22, 1874; application nled August 17, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JOHN CLINE, of Panora, in the county of Guthrie and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Bag-Filler for the lling of paper sacks with groceries, or flour, or other substances, and also filling grain-sacks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, marked Plate I and Plate 2, and made a part of this specification.
Plate l is a perspective view of said bagiiller. Plate 2 is a side view of said bag-filler.
My invention consists in a bag-filler which will accommodate itself automatically to different-sized sacks, in combination with a pivoted vertical rising arm, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents a stand, attached to a counter or a oor, having at its upper end a socket, a, to receive the lower portion of the vertical rod B. The upper portion of this upright rod B is mortised or recessed at d, and is removable from the stand. C represents a horizontal arm, having at one end prongs f f, to which one section, D, of the funnel is rigidly secured, and the other end is pivoted in the mortise or recess d in the upright rod B. E represents the ilexible section of the funnel, which is pivoted to the upper end of the section D by means of rivets 7L 7L passing through the sections D E, thereby allowing the section E to swing outward and upward upon the rivets d d, and thereby accommodating itself to sacks of different size.
The sack or bag is suspended on the hook t, attached to the rear end of the rigid section D, and passed around the mouth of the funnel,
and attached thereto by suitable means, and
the grain or groceries poured into the funnel will cause the funnel to open and freely discharge its contents. The weight of the scoop and grain in this case is directly upon the funnel, and not upon the sack, as in the ordinary way of filling sacks.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The automatic bagfiller, consisting of the stand A, the rod B, vibrating arm C, and funnel sections D E, the latter pivoted to the upper end of section D, all arranged substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
