To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ADoLrrI G. SNIDER, a

citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to display devices and has for its primary object to provide a l simply constructed collapsible device for use in show windows or upon counters whereby an attractive and novel display of merchandise may be made.

More particularly, in one embodiment of my present improvements I provide a main display panel having integral lateral extensions at one of its ends each consisting of a series of relatively foldable sections and adapted when set. 'up to support an article to be displayed, said sections folding closely upon each other when the device is collapsed so that a large number of the display devices can be stored or packed in a comparatively small space.

It is a further general object of the invention to provide a device of'this character which can be inexpensively produced from a sheet of material, preferably card board, by a single stamping or cutting operation of a suitably formed die.

With the above and other objects in view,

the invention consists in the improved display device, and in the form, construction and arrangement of its several parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and subsequently incorporated in the subjoincd claims.

In the drawing wherein I have shown one simple and satisfactory embodiment of the invention and in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views:

Figure 1 is a bottom edge or plan view of the device collapsed as shown at Figure 3. For purposes of'illustration, I have shown the main display panel 5 of the device cut or formed to represent an arrowhead, but it will, of course, be understood that this main panel may be made in various other shapes, forms and sizes in accordance with the particular article of merchandise to be displayed or advertised. The front surface of said panel 5 is adapted to receive appropriate printed advertising matter.

To the rear face of the panel 5 and centrally thereof the narrow flap 7 on one edge of a supporting easel 6 is securedby means of a suitable adhesive. This easel 6 maybe readily bent with respect to the flap 7 there-- of to lie ilat against the rear side of the panel 5, as seen in Figure 3, orextended to a position at right angles to the panel 5 as shown in Figure 2 when the device is arranged in display position.

The panel 5 as well as its supporting easel 6 is stamped or cut from suitable sheet material, preferably cardboard, and said panel 5 is provided at one of its ends with integral lateral extensions. Each'of these extensions at its juncture with the panel is scored as at 8 to provide a hinge or fold line, and each extension is also provided withadditional spaced scores 9, thereby forming a series of relatively foldable sections 10 in each extension. As herein shown, I have provided the device with three such foldable sections, but it will be manifest that i a greater'number of such sections might be provided in accordance with the desired form or shape to be produced when these extensions are set up indisplay position. In the embodiment illustrated, when in display position, the relatively foldable sections of each of the lateral extensionson the main panel produce a supporting structure of general triangular shape in plan having the formof a truncated pyramid. The rear section 10 ofeach extensionhas its end'edge disposed upon the rear side of, the main panel 5 and adhesively secured thereto, as indicated at 11. This rear section also has a central vertial score line 12 therein so that it may fold upon itself. In spaced relation to its upper edge the rear section 1O is provided with ahorizontal score line 13 whereby the relatively movable flap 14 is produced,

In the use of the displayv device above described, assuming that the lateral extensions are folded or collapsed as seen in Figure 3 of the drawings, the several sections 10 thereof are relatively moved or expanded r to the position shown in Figure 1 1n which forwardly "so that they extend bctweenthe two forwardlyextending panels or sections 10 as clearly shown'in Fig. 2 of the-drawings. In this manner, thecollapsible structure is thus firmly braced and sustained against accidental folding or collapse under the weight of the article. It willbenoted that the article does not contact with or rest upon the bracing flap or flange 14: or upon the upper endof the rear section 10. The two spaced supporting structures at the lower end ofthemainpanelthus afford a fir-m and substantial base for the device and when the articles to be displayed are positioned upon these supports, the weight thereof operates to prevent the device being, accidentally moved or blown over by air drafts. The displayed articles either exposed or contained in cartons, when arranged upon the spaced supporting structures, are directly associated with the advertising matter printed upon the main panel 5, thus providing a very attractive displaywhich will arrest and hold the attention pective purchaser.

It will, of course, be understood that in addition to the printed advertising matter contained on the face of the main panel 5, i

form, proportion and relative arrangement of the several detail partsas may be fairly incorporatecl within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

I claim: 1

A display device formed froma single sheet of material and comprising a main display panel and lateral extensions integral with each side of said panel and each consisting of a plurality of relatively foldable sections movable with respect to each other l flu and with relation to said panel from a folded position in the plane of the main panel into spaced open relation to each other with a number of the sections on each side projecting in front of the main panel to provide a many sided supporting structure, the upper edges of two of said sections on each side of the main panel being cut to extend obliquely downwardly and forwardly with respect to the main panel when the device is set up and each of said latter sections having vertical extensions at its forward up per edge to retain an article in display position thereon.

A collapsible display device construct ed from a single piece of sheet material and comprising a main panel having integral extensions at one end projecting laterally from opposite side edges thereof, each of said extensions being scored to provide a plurality of relatively foldable sections movable with respect to each other and with relation to said main panel from folded position in the plane of the main panel to provide a many sided article supporting structure with a number of the sections on each side projecting in frontof the main panel, and a bendable flap on one of said foldable sections adapted to be positioned between the other sections to provide a brace and prevent the collapse of the supporting structure.

A collapsible display device constructed from a single sheet of material and comprising a main display panel having extensions projecting laterally from opposite edges thereof, each of said extensions being scored at spaced points to provide a plurality of relatively foldable sections movable with relation to each other with respect to the main panel from folded position in the plane of the main panel to provide a many sided article supporting structure with a number of the sections on each side projecting in front of the main panel, when the device is set up, one of said sections be:*
