The present invention has relation to advertising or display devices and consists of a show card and a supporting easel therefor preferably integral therewith. Heretofore many types of 5 combined show cards with an easel have been proposed and the most common form in use, designed to stand rigidly in an upright or display position, is composed of a flat, usually nonfoldable card, with a folding or collapsible easel pasted on the back of said card. A device of this kind to some extent gives the needed rigidity and support so that the device will stand upright on a counter or elsewhere to perform its function as an advertising medium.

1.5 Various other types of devices have also been proposed wherein the complete display device is composed of a single sheet having portions folded so as to form the combined show card and easel, and one object of the present invention is to produce an improved device of the kind which will give the highest degree of efilciency obtainable. Also the improved device is of such simple construction that it may be economically produced, packed, and shipped and furthermore,

155 due to its simplicity, the improved device may be easily set up into the operativeor display 110- sition.

In carrying out the present invention the device is preferably composed of a single sheet blank cut and scored so as to form a central or main body portion forming the show card or display and portions partly cut away from the main portion of the blank at the sides thereof provide an easel or support for the device.

The improved device in its normal or inoperative position is fiat and may therefore be readily packed and shipped and the improved device as designed lends itself to be made of a single sheet which is substantially rectangular, square or 40 other shape with no extensions etc. which are detrimental against the economical production of the blanks.

The operation of setting up the improved device is extremely simple and when set up the easel support provides a firm base for the device and said support is such in all cases with regard to the center of gravity, that the device is firmly supported against accidental toppling over. Furthermore with such a support, in conjunction with the natural rigidity of the card portion a device of considerable area may be composed of comparatively light weight paper board, and furthermore due to its rigidity at all points the improved device is capable of supporting a comparatively heavy piece of merchandise.

The improved device will be hereinafter more fully described with several embodiments of the invention together with details of construction and the description will be given with reference to the accompanying drawing wherein- Figure 1 is a plan view of a single sheet blank of which the improved device is composed;

In the embodiment of the invention as illustrated in Figures 1, 2 and 3, the improved device is composed of a single sheetblank A having a body or main portion 1. Side pieces or portions 2 partly cut away from the main portion 1 are connected to the main portion 1 on diagonal crease lines 3 and these portions 2 fold downwardly and inwardly on said crease lines 3 so that when folded the two portions converge. The side portions 2 are creased on the lines 4 whereon the free ends 2 extending beyond these crease lines are folded downwardly so that the portions 2 form legs or supports 5 crossing at the point 6 where notches 'l are provided to hold the creased portions 2 in place. A series of notches 7 may be provided so as to obtain adjustability to permit the show card or bodyiof the device to stand in different angular or tilted positions.

The upper edges 8 of the portions 2 are cut on a slant so that in the preferred angular position of the display card these edges will rest evenly on a fiat surface and together with the lower edge 9 of the card 1 provide an extended base whereby the device is maintained in a firm position.

It will be noted that the easel or support formed by the folded and creased side. pieces 2 provides an exceedingly rigid support which is held against opening beyond the set position and 1-1 improved easel or support operates on the same principle as a tripod for the support is at three different points, that is, at the two free edgesof the folded legs 5 and the bottom edge of the display card. As stated this support is firm ever! when the device is composed of comparatively light weight board and being of such a firm nature the support will readily carry merchandise which might be placed on the display card within an opening 10 formed by cut away piece 11 which latter may be folded downwardly to rest on the legs 5 and thereby provide a platform on which the merchandise will rest.

Referring to Figures 4 and 5 in the example shown therein the same principles are involved as found in the previously described examples but with the modification that the side leg or prop portions 2 are folded on single crease lines 12. The similarity of this blank A" to the blank A shown in Figure 1 is best shown by pointing out that the blank A is substantially the same only it is inverted. Another difference is that the top of the card has a cut out portion 13 which is surmounted by the crown portion 14. In the example now referred to the ends of the legs or props 2 are oppositely notched at 15 so that the two legs will be held together in the converged position.

Figures 6 and 7 illustrate an embodiment of the invention which is practically the same as that shown in Figures! and 5 with the exception that in the blank A" the cut out top portion is eliminated and legs or props 2 are tapered, narrowing towards the bottom so as to stiffen the legs by graduation so that said legs are strengthened at their point of connec tionon the crease line 12. It is of course desirable that the supporting legs when comparatively long, should be stiffened and particularly when comparatively light weight stock is used;.

therefore to give additional strength thereto the outer edge of the legs are provided with a flange 16 as shown in Figure 8.

The improved device has the essential diffe'rentiating characteristics over other one piece display and easel devices in that the improved. device has the side legs or props partly cut from the main portion of the blank and arranged so that they are united thereto on the crease lines 3, 4 or 12 which are diagonally disposed whereon the two legs will fold inwardly so as to converge. When folded properly the natural tendency for these inwardly folding legs is to remain in the converged position and therefore the easel will to some extent, which may be sufficient in many or most instances,

remain in the operative position without the necessity of engaging or looking the two ends together. In the unlocked position the two legs of the easel and the card form a perfect tripod and the set up easel will therefore stand in a firm set supporting position. This desired effect will be best produced with the embodiment of the invention shown in Figures 4-7 inclusive for with the examples shown in Figures 1 and 2 it is necessary to unite the converged supporting legs to produce the best result.

Various modifications may be made in carrying out the details of the invention hereinbefore described or in the application thereof,

and it is to be understood that any modifica tion coming fairly within the terms of the appended claims shall be covered thereby.

I claim:

1. A display device comprising a body with supporting legs at each side thereof, said legs being connected to said body on angularly disposed crease lines whereon said legs are folded so as to converge and bring the free ends thereof together vertically to form a set easel support for said body, said legs having means comprising oppositely disposed notches one adjacent to the extremity of each leg and said notches interlocking so as to retain said legs in the operative position.

2. A display device comprising a body with supporting legs at each side thereof, said legs being connected to said body on angularly disposed crease lines whereon said legs are folded so as to converge and bring the ends of said legs together to form a set easel support for said body, said legs having means adjacent to the extremities thereof interlocking so as to retain said legs in the operative position, and said means comprising a series of notches whereby adjustability is obtained.

3. A display device comprising a show card and an easel integral therewith, said easel being composed of side pieces folding on diagonally disposed crease lines whereon said pieces are 'foldable so as to converge to form a support for said show card in an angular position and said show card having a cut out portion adapted to be folded so as to be v displaced relatively to said show card as a platform to support a piece of merchandise.
