One object of the invention is to provide a display standof knockdown or collapsible character comprising appropriate elements formed of suitable material suchas cardboard, boxboard, corrugated board or the like, and capable, when collapsed or knocked down, of being shipped in flat condition. Thus, although the display stand may be made in a variety of sizes to suit various purposes of use, itmay beso packed for shipment as to occupy very littlespace.
Another object of the invention is to provide a multisided, or polygonal, display stand of collapsible or knockdown form, which,'when set up for use provides a plurality of surfaces for the reception of advertising and other display matter printed or otherwise applied to them, as desired, and a top upon which may be supported articles of merchandise, and the like, for display.
A further object of the invention is to supp-lea ment the display features of the stand with a tray or trays preferably carried by aside or' sides of the stand and so constructed that, although when in set up or display condition, they form pocket-like receptacles offstanding from such side or sides, they maybe collapsedand folded flat against the collapsed and folded body of the stand.
A'still further object of the invention is to provide in a collapsible polygonal displayystandzan interior bracing structure comprising aplurality of co-operating elements which are initially of fiatform, or may be converted to fiat form for shipping purposes.
Theinvention contemplates a, display stand of knockdown or collapsible form, including a body member formed from a suitably scored and folded blank of appropriate, relatively-summaterial, which, when set up, provides a polygonal body; a bracing structure assembled within said body member and including a plurality of appropriately coacting panels the edges of which engage interior angles of the body member to maintain the same in distended set up condition; a top of polygonal form corresponding to that of the body member disposed within the same and supported in appropriate relation to the upper edge thereof by said bracing structure; and a tray or trays carried by a side or sides of said body member, each including a wall structure collapsible with respect to the body member, the
walls of the wall structure provided with inwardly foldable flaps inter-engageable when inwardly folded to maintain the tray or trays in set up condition, and each of said trays provided with a bottom member adapted tobe supported by the upwardly turned edges of said inwardly folded fully and finally claimed.

The display stand includes a body member a formed of a blank of suitable material, such as cardboard, boxboard, corrugated board, or the like, suitably scored as indicated at l to provide .a plurality of sides 2 (six in the form shown) the edges of the blank being brought together as indicated at .3 and appropriately secured as by metal stitches or staples 4%. Attached by staples or the like 5 to selected sides of the bodymember thus formed are tray-forming members in comprising suitably scored and folded blanks, the edges of which are joined as indicatedat 6 asby stitches or staples 7. Each of these tray blanks comprises similar front and back walls 8 andll respectively, each of which is provided with an inwardly foldable flap 38, ll, respectively, and side walls 12 and i3 each of which is provided with an inwardly ioldable flap hi, it.
When set up for display purposes, the display stand is maintained in rigid distended condition by the bracing structure (seeparticularlyFig.
3) comprising, in the form shown, two similar panels Hi slotted downwardly from-their upper edges substantially midway of their height, as
indicated at ll to receive a third or cross panel '18 which is slotted upwardly at two points as indicated at 19. It will be apparent that, .as shown, the panel l8 may be shorter thanthe panelslfi and hence, when assembled with the panels l6 by inter-engagement of the sides of its slot ill with the faces of thepanels i6, and inter- I engagement of the. sidesof the slots H with its faces, may terminate short of the bottoms of the panels [6 thus providing an economy of material without detracting from the strength and efliciency of the structure. The distance from the ends of the slots [9 to the top edge of the panel I8 is shorter than the depth of the slots ll in the panels l6 and hence, when the panels are properly associated, the top edge of the panel I8 will lie below the top edges of the panels It. When the bracing structure including these panels is assembled within the body member a of the display stand the side edges of the respective panels will engage interior angles of the body member, asclearly illustrated in Fig. 2, and the body member will thereby be rigidly maintained in distended, set up, condition.
As an additional bracing element, and for the purpose of appropriately supporting the top of the display stand in a selected position, as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out, there may be provided an auxiliary bracing member d initially flat but prepared for use by scoring and folding to channel formation, providing a web 20 and similar flanges 2i. This auxiliary bracing member is inserted in the body a. with its web disposed between the upwardly extending edges of the panels l5, and resting upon the upper edge of. the panel l8, so that the ends of the web abut against opposite sides of the body member, and the ends of its flanges engage adjacent angles of the body alongside the edges of the panels 16.
This auxiliary bracing member serves to aid the panels l6 and IS in maintaining the body member in distended position not only by its own engagement with parts of the body member, but by maintaining the desired spacing and substantially parallel arrangement of the panels It, thus preventing their possible buckling and disengagement from the interior angles of the body member in which their edges are disposed.
An appropriate polygonal top e is disposed within the body member and may be supported therein upon the upturned edges of the auxiliary bracing member d, as illustrated in Fig. 4. This top may be provided with a finger hole 22 to facilitate its insertion and removal, and the auxiliary bracing member at may be provided with a similar hole 23, if desired.
It will be apparent that, with the top e supported upon the auxiliary bracing member d, its upper surface will be adjacent to the upper edge of the body member. However, if it is desired to provide a receptacle within the confines of the body of the stand, the auxiliary bracing member d may be dispensed with and the top c depressed until it contacts with and is supported by the upper edges of the panels l6, as shown in Fig. 9.
It will be obvious that, when in position, the top e serves as an additional bracing means for holding the body member, at least so far as its upper portion is concerned, in distended condition.
If desired, the auxiliary reinforcing member 11 may be inverted (Fig. 8) from the position in which it is shown in Figs. 3 and 4 tothereby provide a modified support for articles to be displayed, in which case the spaces occurring at its sides above the upper edge of the panel it may be filled in with appropriately shaped members (not shown) or not, as may be found expedient. Also, the auxiliary bracing member it may, if desired, be thus inverted when the top e is used, thus providing an additional stiffening effect for the top and tending further to prevent its buckling should it be called upon to support relatively heavy objects.
In setting up the trays b for display purposes, it is required only that they be distended from the position illustrated in Figs. 6 and 7, that the flaps l0 and ll be folded inwardly and upwardly, and the flaps l4 and 15 then similarly folded inwardly and upwardly between the already folded flaps l0 and l l, and with their edges in frictional engagement therewith. This inwardly and upwardly folded arrangement of the flaps H}, H, H and [5, as will be apparent from an inspection of. Fig. 5, serves to maintain the trays in distended set up condition and, in addition, the free edges of the flaps will support the bottoms J of the trays which bottoms comprise separate pieces disposed within the confines of the walls 8, 9, l2 and I3 and having their edges in contact with these walls.
As hereinbefore mentioned, the display stand may support articles of merchandise, or the like, to be displayed, not only upon its top 6, but also within the pocketlike trays b, and its sides and other exposed surfaces may be appropriately ornamented or decorated, or may bear suitable advertising matter.
When knocked down and prepared for shipment, the body member a. and its trays b will collapse into substantially flat form, as illustrated in Figs. 6, and all members of. the bracing structure may be disassembled and laid flat thereon, as may also the bottoms or the trays and the top c. This knocked-down assembly may then, if desired, be enclosed within a suitable shallow packing case, or otherwise wrapped for shipment, as may be found expedient.
Various changes and modifications are considered to be Within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the following claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a display stand, a polygonal body member, and a bracing structure assembled within said body member, said bracing structure including three panels the side edges of which engage interior angles of the polygonal body member, two of said panels arranged in substantial parallelism, and the other panel arranged substantially normal thereto, means providing for slotted assembly of. said panels whereby they are maintained in predetermined engagement, the top gage interior angles of the polygonal body member, two of said panels arranged in substantial parallelism and slotted for engagement with the third panel which crosses them, the top edges of said first-mentioned panels extending upwardly from the top edge of the third panel, and an auxiliary bracing member of. channel formation disposed between said upwardly extending edges, the ends of the web of said auxiliary member engaging opposite sides of the body member and the ends of its flanges engaging adjacent angles of the body member.
