WOODHEELBREAST-FLAP LAYER.
Application filed April 17, 1924. Serial No. 707,056.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, A'rrILro SEBAs'riANI, a citizen of Italy, and a resident of Portsmouth, in the county of Sciot'o and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and use-- tul Improvements in VVood-Heel-Broast Flap Layers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Among the principal objects which the present invention has in View are; to provide a suitable construction of resilient band ior laying and holding a wood heel breast flap in position on a heel while the adhesive or cement applied thereto is hardening; and
to provide an eflicient and inexpensive band for the above purpose, and one which will occupy a very small space when not in use. Drawings.
Figure l is a side elevation of a shoe in position on a jack post, with the breast flap unattached to the breast of the heel;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of my improved wood heel breast flap laying band; Figure 3 is a side elevation of a shoe on a jack post with the band portion of my device in position for holding the heel breast flap in position;
Figure 4 is a side elevation of a shoe on a jack post with the band portion of my device in position. and showing the strap portion of the device encircling the heel of the shoe, and
' Figure 5 is a bottom view of a shoe w th my improved device in operative position thereon, and showing more especially the means for holding the same in locked position. 1
Description.
in the forming of a complete shoe, a step in the process consists in making the rear portion of the sole, otherwise known as the heel breast flap adhere to the breast of the heel, and it is for this purpose that I have devised my improved breast flap laying band.
The device consists of a rubber or resilient resilient material, for purposes later to be described.
After the wood heel 5 is attached to the. shoe vG, a suitable adhesive is applied to the flap 7, and the shoe is placed on a jack post 8, with the back of the heel towards the person working on the shoe. The flap '7 is then placed on the breast of the heel, and the flap holder or band 1, is placed thereon with the broad portion of the same in the breast, so that the strap 3 will extend on the left side of the shoe. The band is then stretched so that it will extend over the point at the top and back of the last, after which the band will be stretched and wrapped it time and a half around the heel, and is fastened by hooking the bottom hole 4 over the corner of the top lift of the heel at the right side thereof, as clearly illustrated in Figure 5 of the drawings.
The flap holder or band is then left in this position until the adhesive has thoroughly dried on the breast flap, and the same is securely held in place.
From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that I have devised a highly efiicient flap holder. which will be quite inexpensive to manufacture, and which will 3e most simple to operate.
Many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Claims.
said strap being provided adjacent its outer band and extending rearwardly therefrom and adapted to be wrapped under tension about said heel, said strap being provided adjacent its outer end With a botton hole for attachment to the top lift of the heel, to securely hold the holder in operative position.
