To all whom concern: Be it known that I, JOHN E. HILL, a cit1- zen of Finland, and a resident of Berkeley, county of Alameda, and State of California, have invented a new and useful Sole Clamp,

of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to apparatusv for repairing shoes and an object of the invention is to provide a device for clamping the sole to the bottom of a shoe while a layer of adhesive for attaching the soleis setting.

My invention possesses other objects and t featnresof advantage, some of which, with the foregoing,will be set forth in the following description of my-invention. It is to be understood that I do not'limit myself to the showin made by the said description, as I may a opt variant-forms of my invention within the scope of the claims.-

In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my device applied to a shoe. Fig. 2. is a vertical sectional view taken longitudinally thru the center of my device and showing a shoe held therein.

' .In general terms the device of my invention comprises a pressure plate adapted to fit over the sole which is securedto the bottom of a shoe, and faced with a resilientpad different sizes of shoes are provided.

.After the plate is inserted into the shoe the shoe is placed on a last3 of the usual type. The last acts as a backing for the supporting plate. Ofcourse a block similar in form to the end of the last could be used for a backing but since a last is the most convenient and is a part of every shoemakers outfit, its use is preferred.

A pressure plate 4 of suflicient size to cover the ordinary sizes of halfsoles is provided with a resilient pad 6 attached thereto in any suitable manner as by loops of wire 7 A heavier plate or block 8 is fixed to the back of the pressure plate and rotatably secured therein is a screw 9 which is threaded thru one side of the square clamp ring 11 of such proportions as to permit itto be inserted over the toe of the shoe as shown in Fig. 2. 6 Y

The opposite side of the clamp ring is pro.- vided with a short plate 12 padded with some soft material such as felt 13 to prevent injury to the surface of the shoe.

In order tosecure a half sole to the bottom of a shoe withQmy device the sole is reduced to desired size and adhesive applied to the two parts and the sole pressed into place. My clamp is then opened and after positioning the shoe on the last with the supporting plate'2 in position, is-pushed over the toe in the position shown in Fig.2 and the screw,

I claim:

1. A device for clampingia sole to a shoe comprising a rigid'plate for supporting the inside bottom surface of the'shoe, a resilient pad for engaging the sole, a pressure plate /for backing the pad, means from which said plate is separable arranged on the inside of the shoe for backing the supporting plate, and clamping means adjustable over the toe of-the shoe for ressing the parts together.

2.- A device or clamping a sole to a shoe with a last therein, comprising a plate separate from said last and conformingto the shapeof and adapted for supporting the inside bottom surface ofthe shoe, a continuous ring for enclosing the toe of the shoe and the plate, a resilient-pad for engaging the sole and arranged to overlap the edges thereof, a pressure .plate secured to said ring and" conforming to the shape of.and arranged for backing said pad, and a second pad and plate secured to said ring and arranged to engage the top surface of the shoe upper.
