To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ErrInAIM R. NnisLo, a citizen of the United States of America. and resident of Fort lVayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in clasps for hose supporters particularly for use in making a detachable connection between a supporter strap and the hose, and the object of the improven'ient is to provide a detachable clasp applicable to hosiery which may be readily applied and removed from the hose without injury to the fabric. Another object of the invention is to provide in a hosiery clasp a pliant stud upon which the fabric is clamped so constructed as to increase its pressure upon the fabric and thus hold the hose with greater firmness as the tension between the hose and the hose supporter is increased. These objects are accomplished by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a'clasp embodying the invention the clamp being shown closed;
Fig. 2 is a similar View showing the clamp open;
Fig. 3 is a side view in central section with the clamp and the swinging stud in open position;
Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of the supporting frame for the parts;
Fig. 5 is a rear elevation of thestud support;
Fig. 6 is across section of Fig. 5 on the line 6-6 thereof; and
Fig. 7 is a side elevation of the clasp connected with a supporter strap.
The characters appearing in the description refer to parts shown in the drawings and designated thereon by corresponding characters.
The invention consists of a supporting frame 1 formed of a metallic plate and shaped with an inturned wing 2 at each side thereof to form a corresponding longitudinal guide-way 3, the lower end of the plate being upturned to form a rounded jaw 4. The frame has a central opening 5 therein betweenthe side wings 2, and at the upper end of the opening is a hinge lug 6 formed by curling an integral part of the plate up 1924. Serial No. 719,730.

In the upper end of the frame are made a pair of laterally disposed slots 8 for the accommodation of a supporter strap 9 to which the clasp is secured. A shackle 10 consisting of an elongated wire loop having parallel sides 11, is mounted in the frame and has longitudinal movement therein, its respective sides 11 being positioned. in the. corresponding guideways 3 and extending also in the corresponding end of the jaw it which is made narrow at the bottom to admit of the passage ofthe loop sides 11 and form an additional guide therefor. On the upper end of the shackle 10 is hinged a lever 12 which is connected also with the hinge lug 7 by a fulcrum link 13,there being a hinge lug 1% on the lever in which the upper end of the link 13 is secured. The opening 5 in the fr me admits of the movements of the lever and the link through the front thereof .and the lever is so shaped as to close said opening when the lever is in its lowermost position. The free end 15 of the lever is arched outwardly and has lateral cars 16 that extend over and clasp the corresponding sides of the frame when the lever is in its lowermost position.
An arm 17 formed of spring wire is se-' cured at one of its ends in the hinge lug 6 at the back of the frame, and at its opposite end' is fixed a base plate 18 having a lateral slot 19 therein for the accommodation of the lower end of the strap .9. The extreme lower end of the arm 17 is bent at right angles and projects through the base plate 18' affording a mount or projecting loop 20 upon which is positioned a rubber stud 21.
A yoke plate 22, the middle portion of which extends down into the stud and. through the loop 20 and the ends of which are spread out oppositely over the top of the stud limits the endwise expansion of the rubber stud, and also admits of the stud being compressed endwise. When the arm 17 is swung upon its hinged connection the stud is swung into or out of the opening in the shackle 10 ieneath the jaw 4 when the shackle is moved downwardly to admit of the insertion or withdrawal of the stud.

In utilizing the invention the lever 12 is raised by applying the finger-to the arched end 15 thereof or by grasping the ears'lfi between the thumb and finger and swinging the lever outwardly. The arm 17 isswung backwardly together with the stud sufiicient'ly'to admit ot=inserting the top of the hose (notshown) between the arm and the frame-as in app-lyingthe ordinary clasp. 'lVhile the hose is thus secured and tension is applied thereto, that portion of the hose covering the outer end of the stud is drawn tightly t-hereover which tends to compress the st-ud' endwise. As the stud is thus compressed 'endwise. it expands accordingly an operating lever extending through the-aperture ofthe frame and hmged on thenpper end of the loop; a fulcrum link for the lever pivoted in-the lowermost hingewlug; awswmging arm connected at its upper end-in the uppermost hinge lug; a
base plate on the arm, the lower-end ofthe a-rm extending through said plate affording a projecting loop a rubber stud secured by saith-projectingloop to said plate; a yoke -plateithemiddle portion of'which extends down into the stud and through-said projectingloop andrthenends ofwhich spread out oppositely over the top of thestud; and a supporterstrap connected to the upper end. of'the frame and the. lower end of the base plate-and covering the back of the arm.
2. In a garment clasp an apertured frame having a longitudinal guide-way in each side thereof and a hinge lug at the top and bottom .of its apenture; a swinging arm connected at its upper-end to the uppermost hinge lug; a rubber stud in connection with the lower end of the arm and having bearing contact against thelower end of the frame; a shackle loop longitudinally movable in said guideways and encompassing the stud; a toggle mechanismconnected with the frame and the shackle operable to move the shackle intobinding engagement with the stud; and a supporter strap connected with the frame and covering the back of the arm.
3. In a garment clasp, a frame having longitudinal guide-ways therein; arubber stud member including an arm hinged at the upper part of the f-rame; the rubber stud having'bearing contact upwardly against the lower end of the frame; a shackle loop longitudinally movable in the guideways and encompassing the stud; and a toggle mechanism connected with the frame and the shackle upwardlv operable to more the shackle into binding engagement with the stud.
