G.B.MERSHON,JR
SUPPOR'IER FOR AN INNER GARMENT OF FEMALE WEAR Filed July 18 1923 ATTORNEYS. I
. Patented Sept. 16, 19 24.
fiTATES mania PAT-air GEORGE E. MERSHON, JR OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SUPPORTER FOR AN INNER GARMENT 0]! FEMALE WEAR.
Application filed July 18,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE B. MERSHON, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Supporter for an Inner Garment of Female Wear, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a supporter for an undergarment of female wear, the same being attachable by a straplike member on the body of said outergarment to adevice which is permanently secured to an outer garment whereby said inner garment is supported and said member prevented from slipping from the shoulder of the wearer.
It consists also in providing said device with means for causing the same to remain in proper alignment on the outergarment and so prevented from turning or twisting sideways thereon.
The invention is satisfactorily illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but the im-' portantinstrumentalities thereof may be varied,'and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific details shown and' described, as long as they are within the scope of the claims.
Figure 1 represents a front elevation of a garment supporter in position embodying my invention.
Figure 2 represents an elevation of the same detached.
Figures 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 and 11 represent elevations of modifications thereof.
Figure 12 represents a side elevation of another embodiment of the invention.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings.
1 designates a portion of a ladys outergarment, and 2 designates a portion of a ladys innergarment such as an underbody. 3 designates a strap or band of suitable material which is of the form of a loop whose terminals 4 are stitched or otherwise secured to the front of the upper portion of the innergarment 2. The bend 5 of said loop is passed over the lower member 6 of the device 7 which is adapted to support the strap 3, said device being connected with the shoulder of the outer garment 1, and cons sting of the cupped longitudinally extending bar 3, and a longitudinally-extending bar comprising the member 6 as aforesaid, said bars being connected by the bend 9, thus imparting 1923. Serial No. 652,273.
resiliency to the two bars which may be separated at the ends opposite to said bend 9 whereby the bend of the strap 3 may be slipped over the bar 6 and supported thereon, and as the device 7 is connected with the shoulder of the outergarment the strap 3 is connected with the latter and so supports the innergarment fromthe shoulder of the outergarment and consequently from the shoulder of the wearer preventing said strap from slipping ofi of the shoulderof the wearer, it being evident'that when the bars 6 and 8 are in closed position the bend of thestrap is prevented from lateral displacement therefrom. 1
A device 7 and strap 3 will be applied to each side of the respective garmentsso as to uniformly sustain the right and left portions of the inner garment.
The device 7 is intended to be a permanent fixture of the outer garment for which pur pose the bend 9 of the bars 6 and 8 is con verted into the eye 10, whilst-he end of the bar 8 opposite to said bend is formed with the eye 11. By these plurality of eyes both ends of the device may be stitched or otherwise secured to the outergarment at different places thereon, thus preventing the device from turning or twisting on said garment while, however, permitting the bar 6 to preserve its resiliency and open and close as above stated.
In Figures 3, 4, 10 and 11 the device 7 is similar to that shown in Figures land 2 with slight modifications in the construction of the eyes and bends.
In Figure 4, the lower member or bar 6 of the device has thereon the friction roller '12 on which the bend portion 5 of the strap 3 tachable to the outergarment and so pre-v vented from turning or twisting thereon. In Figures 6 and 7, the lower" member or bar 6 has thereon a friction roller similar to that in Figure 4.
In Figures 8 and 9 the device is of circular form each having an eye 10 in the lb. thereof and an eye 11 on a teal thereof and thus said terminals are adapted to be opened and closed.
In Figure 12 I show a single strap which is bent over the member 6 of the sup orting device and its two lengths 16 exten therefrom resgrlectively to the front and rear portions of t e inner garment so that the latter is supported at said portions and so prevented from dropping while said strapcontrolled by the device 7 remains on the shoulder of the wearer without liability of slipping from the same.
Having thus described my invention what ll claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A lingerie clasp com rising a member of wire bent in the midd e to form an eye adapted to be sewn'to an outer garment, the branches of said member being extended in parallelism and in spaced relation for a portion of their extent with their ends c0n-.
verged to abutting, tensioned relation, the converging ends each being bent outwardly and inwardly to form eyes of which one is adapted to be sewn to an outer garment, said abutting ends being separable for lingerie strap insertion.
2. In a device for holding in place upon the shoulder of a wearer the stra of an undergarment, a member of wire wnt in the middle to form an eye having branches weenie which are extended in parallelism and in spaced relation for a portion of their extent with their ends converged to abutting tensioned relation the conver ing ends being bent outwardly and inwarcfiy to form eyes; the fiist mentioned eye and one of the last mentioned eyes being adapted to be sewn to an outer garment and Saul strap being insertible between said tensioned parts.
3. A supporter for an inner garment of female wear having thereon a supporting strap-like member extending therefrom to the shoulder of an outergarment, an attaching device for said strap permanently affixed to said outergarment above said inner garment, said device having mounted mom of its constituents a roller on which said strap-like member is. adapted to play.
4. A lingerie clasp comprising a member of wire bent over upon itself intermediate its length and having branches extended therefrom in spaced relation for a portion of their extent with their ends converged toward one another in resilient, abutting relation, at least one extremity of said abutting parts being bent outwardly and inwardly to form an e c, said abutting parts being separable for lingerie strap insertion.
