Initial Sleeve-Buttons.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEo ISAAC PFORZHEIMER, OF N YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN INITIAL SLEEVE-BUTTONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,348, dated Dtcember 1, 1874; application filed October 13, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IsAAc PEoRzHEiMER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented Improvements in Sleeve-Buttons and other articles of jewelry, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to that class of buttons bywhich dealers and others are enabled to change the initial letters. and which relieves them from the necessity of keeping large stocks ol' complete buttons on hand, it being only necessary to have on hand a f'ew of the button parts with an assortment of letters to be attached as wanted. y
Two different forms of fastening the initial letter to the button are represented by the accompanying drawing. ,l
Figure 1 represents the face of the button with the initial letter in place. Fig. 2 is a section of button with the initial letter in place held by the screw a, which is attached to the initial letter, checked, when screwed home, by the small spring b. Fig. 3 represents the under side of the button, showing the spring' or check b. Fig. 4 represents the under side of a button with a forni of fastening without screw by the pinp passing through theshank s, which is attached to the initial letter. Fig. 5 is a sectional view, showing the last-mentioned form of fastening with the initial letter in place,
held by the pin p passing through the shank s,- and Fig. o shows an initial letter made in accordance with my invention.
The initial may also be fastened by a spring or snap similar to those used on bracelets.
Other means of securing the initial letter to the base-plate of the button besides what I have described, may be employed Without departing from the spirit of my invention, which consists essentially in the construction of an independent initial letter in contradistinction to an initial plate, as illustrated in the patent of W. Overbaugh, No. 56,791 granted July 3l, 1866, my said initial letter being made attachable and removable at will by suitable means. I therefore disclaim the invention covered by said patent; but
What I claim as myA invention is The combination, with a sleeve-button or other piece of jewelry, of an independent attachable and removable initial letter made of metal or other suitable material, constructed essentially as shown in Fig. 6 of the drawing, and secured to the button substantially as described.
ISAAC PFORZHEIMER.
