Description

G. STBASZER. Shirt-Collar Fastenings.
Patented Dec. 30,1873.
INQVE mom ATT'EST:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE STRASZER, OF MANCHESTER, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO HECTOR MONEILL, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHIRT-COLLAR FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,974, datc d December 30, 1873; application filed December 1, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE STRASZER, of Manchester, St. Louis county, Missouri, have invented an Improvement in Shirt-Collar Fastenings, of which the followingis a specification:
This invention consists of a plate, which is attached to the neck-band of the shirt by a brooch-pin, and to which is hinged a keeper, which, in use, stands outside the ends of the collar, and is held in position by a button that turns in the former plate, and passes through the button'holes of the collar, and through a slot in the front plate or keeper.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front View, showing the device in use. Fig. 2 is a back perspective view. Fig. 3 is a side View. Fig. 4 is a back perspective view of a modification.
A is the back plate, which carries a hinged brooch-pin, B, of ordinary construction. The pin B is for engagement in the neck-band of the shirt, and may be attached to the outer end of the same before the shirt is put on. Hinged at a to the plate A is a keeper, consisting of a plate, O, having a slot, 0, to allow the passage of the button D. The button D turns in the plate A in such a manner as to be parallel with or across the slot 0, so that when the plate or keeper is turned up, and the button turned into a vertical position, as shown, the keeper cannot drop, but holds the ends of the collar E firmly in position.
The fastener may be made ornamental, so as to admit of wearing without a cravat; or may be made with a'device for the attachment of the common butterfi y-cravat usually worn with paper collars.
In Fi 4 the pin B is shown in a horizontal instead of a perpendicular position; but the fastening is, in other respects, similar to that.
shown in the other figures.
I claim as my invention The collar-fastener, consisting of the plate A, pin B, turn stud or button D, and keeper O, having a slot, 0, all arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
Witnesses: GEORGE STRASZER.
