UNIT ED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH LACHAINE, 01: LOWELL, MASSACHUSETTS.
I MULTIPLE METAL CABINET.
Application filed June 29,
sachusetts, have invented certain newand uiJeEul Improvements in Multiple Metal Cab- I inets, of which the following is a specification.
T his'i-nvention relates to improvements in I cabinets, particularly to such as are made of which are light, strong,
firesproof and sanitary.
The main object is to provide a group or series of independent cabinets, so co-related f that two or more of their partition walls also act as partition walls for adjacent cabinets, each cabinet being however distinct and separately usable.
A further object is to so construct the walls of the cabinet as to interengage at their corners in a firm and substantial manner, but
. permitting their disassociation for transporshown in- Fl tation or storage in compact form.
Still further objects are to provide shelves,
floors and covers within the cabinets; which like thevertical walls, are of knock-down construction. These and other, the novel .construction,
rangementv of and shown in t e accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which:-
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a object s are, attained by combination and argroup of cabinets made in accordance wit the invention, parts being omitted in order to disclose the construction.
Figure 2 isa fragmentary of the inner joints. I l Figure 3 is a top-plan view of one of the inner partitions. j
top view at one =Figure4 is a similar view of one of'the corner partitions. Figure 5 is a side elevational view of the parts shown in- Figure 2.
Figure '6 is a similar side view of the element shown inv Figure 3. I Figure 7 is a like 'side view re 4.- Figure 8 1s a plan view of the central top; or cover in detail.
igure 9 is a Similar plan view of one of the side cover plates.
Figure 10'is a plan view of one of the shelves. 7 e a Referring to the drawings in detail, 'the of the m arts hereinafter described '-ner with the angu angles inwardlgo forming supports 1925. Serial No. 40,443.
numeral 15 designates the front element of the left hand cabinet, 16 the front of the center compartment, and 17 the front ele- 'ment at the right hand end.
Each of these elements, andthose corresponding to them on the'opposite side of the group, are rectangular in shape and contain openings 15', 16 and 17 through which the interior of the compartments are accessible, these openings being provided with doors (not shown) if desired.
The side or end plates 20 and 21 are arranged in pairs and held to other along their adjacent lateral edges liy partition plates 22 in the following manner.
The. outer edges of the plate 22 are sheared, as at 23 and 23', the material at the margins being bent o positely, above and below the cuts 23 and 23, and then turned i-e-entrantly in, forming spaced hooks 26 and 26, and 28 and 28.
In a closely similar manner the adjacent marginal. edges of the plates 20 and 21 are bent at right angles and then turned re-entrantly, forming hooks 30 and 32, which when entered in the hooks 26 and 28 by sliding the plates lengthwise, relatively to the other, become interlocked and firmly held in engagement.
The outer marginal edges are extended straight out and formed into continuous hooks 31 and 33 engaging in a s m lar manar y turned and folded edges 34 and 36 of the front plates 15, the
h rear edges of which are'folded and turned forming books '35 and 37 inal'hooksof the 40, the structure ein in a like manner, engaging the mar tion plates38 an continued indefinitely in the same genera manner.
At-points near the bottom of the several arti sideand intermediate vertical 'partitions or walls, 20-40 etc., the plates are formed with one or more 11 standing projections 42 and.
43, upon whic floor elements 44.
- Alsont points near the upper ends of the same walls thematerial is sheared and bent rest bottom plates 'or at right angles inward, formin sup s 45 for shelves '46, these shelf ates 1ng re-enforced along their edges y beadlngs 47, as best shown in Figure 10-.
The extreme upper ends of the front walls 15, 16 and 17 are turned at right 48, while in a like the side walls and 2 1 are turned manner formin m ends of the structure, after the vertical walls and partitions have been assembled are cover or roof plates 58 having downturned rear and end ed es, res tive y 56 and 60, the inner-edges ing ormed with angular projections 61 and suited to closely engage the walls of the compartment.
While Figures 1, 2 and 3 and 4 show a s 'fic manner of interlocking the adjacent e ges of the plates, it will be understood that any other equivalent locking means maybe employed without departing, from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
' what I ,novel type -ments arranged in'opp From the foregoin of groupe cabinets has been disclosed which efi'ectually fulfills the stated pur ses.
aving thus described my invention,
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A multiple cabinet. having compartosed adjacent pairs each compartment bemg rectangular an compriscdof vertical plates so arran ed that the inner plates act as' walls for a jacent compartments, opposed seamed longitudinal edges formed seams of one plate being slidably engageable with the seams of juxtaposed means formed with the edges of the inner plates engageable with each pair of adjacent outer plates by which they'are interlocked togetgerr it will be seen that a ment, cover on each plate, the
plate, and;
multiple cabinm having comparthavin openings in their front walls, shelves in ea compartment accessible through the mentioned openings,
walls of each compartment, ang'ular'turned supports at the tops of each wall extendmg into each compartment, a cover plate for each pair of compartments, means formed with t able over said walls, and clips formed with the upper ends of each outer side wall engagea e over the cover plates at the ends of the structure.
3. A metal plate having an openin a side late, a back plate and inner side p ate, said back plate forming the rear wall of tothe rst and saidinner side plate acting as a partition for an adjoinin sheared supports formed with sai side and back plates, a shelf adapted to rest upon said supports, means integrally formed at the corners of the cabinet for holding the four walls in fixed relation, a cover extending beyond said cabinet an ad oining cabinet, means formed with the edges of said cover for holding it in fi'xed relation, and clips formed with the-outer side plate adapted-to the cabinets.
4. A multiple cabinet having a plurality cabinet comprising a front cabinet,
and adapted tocover supports 'for said F: shelves formed integrally with the-inner e edges of said cover plates engage- Y a cabinet opposed clamp said cover over of compartments. each havindg side walls interengaged by uninterrupte teams at their edges, a' base platform for each compartplates extending thereover and ed interiora'llyof each comshelves arran shelves acting as Spreaders artment, sai orthewalls.
5. A multiple compartmented cabinet comprisin side walls. a base plate, a cover plate, saicfbase plate being adapted to hold said walls in a spread condition, shelves interposed in the length of said walls, interengaging seams at the longitudinal edges of each of said compartments, other engaging means between said base and cover plate and said walls, and means for locking said cover plate when in an assembled position.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
JOSEPH LAcHArNE.
