' citizen of GreatBritain, and a resident of Garwood, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Tooth-Paste Ejector, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.v
This invention relates to tooth pasteejectors and has for an object to provide an improved construction wherein a collapsible toothpaste tube is held in proper position,
. the structure being such that the actuating members may be inverted for each tube whereby it will not be necessary to move the parts in a reverse direction when resettin nother object of the invention is to provide a tooth paste ejector wherein a bracket and a suitable holder co-acting therewith is presented, the holder being so formed as to cause a tube to discharge in either direction.
A still further object, more specifically, is to provide a tooth paste ejector formed to engage and squeeze the tube and indoing so to cause the squeezing means to travel from one end of the device to theother, the operating mechanism and holder for the squeezing means being reversible whereby opposite ends of the holder will act as ejecting ends alternately.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a sectional view through Figure 2, approximately on line 1-1.
E'gure 2 is a front view of a tooth, paste ejector disclosing an embodiment of the invention, a tube of paste being shown in position.
Figure 3 is a sectional view through Figure 1, approximately on line 33.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a bracket adapted to be'secured to a wall or other support by any suitable means, as for instance, screws 2. This bracket is provided with bracing extensions 3, 4, 5 and 6 and also with supporting extensions 7 and 8. The supporting extensions 7 and 8 are each provided with a .notch 9 adapted to receive the ears or lugs 10 and 11 onthe holder 12. The holder 12 is provided with bent over ends 13 and 14, each holder having a notch 15 formed therein adapted to receive the 'threaded end16 of the tube 17. When the parts are in the position shown in the drawing, the threaded end 16 is engaging the end 14 but if the holder 12 was inverted, the tube 17 would be re-arranged so that the threaded end 16 would fit into notch 15 the notches 15 are. sharpened whereb the edges. may fit into the threads of en s 16. A screw member 18 extends through the ends .of end 13. Preferably, theedges adjacent 13 and 14 as shown in Figure 1, said screw member at the opposite ends being provided with hand or thumb wheels 19 and 20, each of said wheels having a hub bearing against the respective ends 13 and 14 whereby the threaded member 18 may freely rotate but cannot move, longitudinally.- This threaded member extends through a traveling block 21 which has a threaded aperture for receiving the threaded member 18 whereby whenever the threaded member 18 is rotated, block 21 will be moved upwardly or downwardly. A: rack 22 is also secured in anydesired manner to the ends 13 and 14,
and 24 adapted to mesh with the respective pinions'25 and 26, These pinions are rotatably mounted on shafts 27 and 28 extending through block 21' and also through the respective rollers 29 and30. The pinionsv 25 and 26 are connectedin any suitable manner to the- rollers 29 and 30, which rollers are preferably made of metal with a rubber covering so as to grip and squeeze the tube 17 as the device is'operated.
In order to prevent the rollers from spreading atthe outer'end, a. locking catch 31 is provided which is pivotally connected by the pin 32 to shaft 28. A pin or screw- 33 is connected withshaft 27 and is positioned so that its head will partly overlap catch 31 when either of the notches 34 is a'ccommodatingthe pin. It will be understood that there is a notch on each edge of catch 31 so that when the parts are'in the position shown in Figure 2 the catch may be arranged as. shown in Figure 2 but when the rollers and associated arts are near end 14 and are moving towar end 13, the catch 31' will be reversed so. that vthe opposite notch would accommodate pin33. On each locking member 37 extends, said locking member being continually acted on by the spring 38 for holding the cap 39 either 1n an open position as shown at the bottom of Figure 1 or in a closed ositlon as shown at the top of Figure 1. he locking member 37 is connected to the cap 39 by a pair of arms 40 rigidly secured to the lockin member 37 or formed integral therewit By this construction and arrangement, the cap 39 may be snapped open or snapped closed.
\Vhen the parts are in the position shown in Figure 1 and it is desired to use some tooth paste, cap 39 is moved to the open position as shown in Figure 1, if not already in that position. Either of the hand wheels 19 and 20 is then rotated to cause the block 21 to move downwardly. This action will not move the tube 17 downwardly but will move the rollers 29 and 30 downwardly and as they move downwardly they will rotate by reason of the action of the pinions 25 and 26 and the rack 22. In this way, the tube will be squeezed and the tooth paste forced therefrom. After the desired amount of paste has been forced from the tube, cap 39 may be closed by merely pushing the same partly to a closed position whereupon the spring 38 will finish the closing action. After the device has been used until all or practically all of the paste in tube 17 has been removed, it is desirable to place a new tube in position. Instead of rotating the threaded member 18 until the rollers or associated parts are near end 13, the holder 12 and parts carried thereby are raised until the lugs 10 and 11 are removed from members 7 and 8. The holder 12 and associated parts are then turned over and the holder again placed in position on members 7 and 8. This will bring the rollers automatically to an upward position and a new tube may then be fitted in and the arts adjusted to substantially the position s own in Figure 1. Each time a new tube is to be applied this operation takes place so that the respective caps 39 are necessary to alternately cover the open end of the tube.
The pair of arms 40 are connected together at their outer ends and bent to form an extension 41, whereby the cap 39 may be easily moved to an open or closed position. It will also be noted that the bracing extensions 3, 4 and 5 are arc-shaped and are intended'not only to brace the member 12 but to act as toothbrush holders or racks providing they are conveniently positioned for use.
. What we claim is:
1. A tooth paste ejector, comprising a bracket adapted to be secured to a support, a supporting member provided with apertured ends presenting a forked structure, the apertures in said ends being adapted to receive at different times the threaded discharge end of a collapsible tooth paste tube with the edges of the forked structure fitting into the threads of said threaded end, said supporting member being capable of being connected with said bracket with either end uppermost, a traveling member carried by said supporting member, manually actuated means for causing said traveling member to move back and forth, a pair of squeezing rollers carried by said traveling member and adapted to squeeze said tube as the rollers travel, and means for causing the rollers to rotate as they travel and in proportion to the distance traveled. 2. A tooth paste ejector, comprising a bracket adapted to be secured to a support, said bracket being formed with a plurality of superimposed substantially are-shaped members presenting tooth brush racks and with hooked members, and a holder adapted to receive a tooth paste tube co-acting with said bracket formed with a vertical body adapted to fit against the outer edges of said arc-shaped members and be held in substantially a vertical position thereby, said body being formed with means interlocking with said hook-shaped members, said holder including said means being invertible.
In a tooth paste ejector, a bracket adapted to be secured to a su port, said bracket being formed with hooii members and a plurality of bracing arc-shaped members acting in the double capacity of tooth brush racks and as holder braces, said -holder having a body fitting against said arc-shaped members. and having means interlocking with said hook-shaped members, said holder being formed with means for supporting a tooth paste carrying tube.
