MEANS FOR DISPENSING THE CONTENTS OF COLLAPSIBLE TUBES Filed Feb. 28, 1954 Fig uRE 1 FIG 24125 :1
- I/VVENTOR 1 a v a M f A T TOR/V5) Patented Nov. 26 1934 MEANS FOR DISPENSING THE CONTENTS OF COLLAPSIBLE TUBES Kenneth B. Van VVoert, Jr., Santa Clara County,
Calif.
Application February 28, 1934, Serial No. 713,313
2 Claims.
It is one object of the present invention to provide a means of the character indicated that will enable the operator to extract the desired quantity of paste from a tube Without handling the tube itself, and one that will prevent waste by discharging substantially all of the paste from the tube before it is discarded.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a means of the character indicated that will be economical to manufacture, simple in form and construction, that consists of few parts, that is easily manipulated, clean, strong, durable and highly efficient in its practical application.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective illustration of a device embodying my invention, with parts broken away.
Figure 2 is a perspective illustration of the front portion of the case enclosing the tube, a part being broken away.
Figure 3 is a section through the back portion of the case on line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is an enlarged view of the collapsing bar and operating means.
In the specific embodiment of the invention herein disclosed I show at 1 a rod of suitable diameter and having a length somewhat greater than the width of the tube upon which it is to be used. This rod has a longitudinal slot 2 formed therethrough and an axially disposed socket as 3 formed in each end. On each end of the rod is disposed a ratchet comprising teeth 4 formed in the end of he rod and a part 5 rotatable relative to the rod and having teeth 6 formed therein to mesh with teeth 4. At 7 is a handle or lever member of resilient material having its ends passing through parts 5 and fixedly secured thereto and seating in the sockets 3. The ratchets are similarly disposed to rotate the rod 1 when actuated in one direction through the operation of lever '7.
At 8 and 9 are shown the complementary front and back parts of a casing of any size and form suitable to receive a paste tube 10. The
' sides of these parts are cut away to form a slot in each side of the case extending substantially the full length thereof as at 11. Formed integrally with back 9 is a foot part 12 having a hole 13 formed therein to receive the discharge end of the tube, and a spring 14 for holding the same in position. The upper end of front 8 has a flange 15 adapted to overlie the top of part 9 and is fitted with catches as 16 on its lower end adapted to engage orifices as 17 in part 9.
In use the closed end of tube 10 is passed through slot 2 in tube 1, and the tube is placed in the back part 9 of the case with its discharge end projecting through the hole 13 as shown. The front part 8 of the case is then slipped downwardly through the handle 7 and secured in place, after which the whole case may be suspended upon a wall as indicated at 18.
To dispense any desired quantity of paste the cap 19 is first removed from the tube and then the handle is pulled downwardly, thereby causing the ratchet mechanism to rotate the rod 1 and roll a little of the tube 10 thereon and consequently forcing some of the paste from the tube. Moving the handle upwardly again sets the ratchets for further squeezing of the tube.
The bottom of the case forms an unyielding support for the tube and provides the resistance necessary for the proper operation of the ratchets.
Successive squeezing operations may be effected as desired until the entire contents of the tube are discharged, the equal operation of the rod 1 at both ends insuring uniform rolling of the tube thereon throughout its entire length.
It is to be understood, of course, that while I have herein shown and described but one specific embodiment of the invention, changes in form, construction, and method of assembly and operation may be made within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In combination, a rod having means engageable with the closed end of a paste tube, a resilient lever having its ends journaled in the ends of the rod, and a ratchet inserted between each end of the rod and the corresponding end of the lever whereby a rotary movement in one direction may be imparted to the rod by the lever.
2. In combination, a case constructed and arranged to hold a paste tube, and having a slot formed longitudinally therein on opposite sides thereof, a rod having means engageable with the closed end of a tube and disposed within the case, a resilient lever disposed exteriorly of the case and having its ends passing through said slots and journaled in the ends of said rod, and a ratchet inserted between each end of the rod and the lever ends whereby a rotary movement in one direction may be imparted to the rod by the lever.
