Description

Patented Jan. 5, 1926.
' l"UNITED STATES sADIE n. GALLEMORE,
OF CASPER, WYOMING.
GARMENT.
Application led May 23, 1924. Serial No. 715,448.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, SADTE E. GALLEMORE,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Casper, yin the county of Natrona and State of lVyOming, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garments, and more particularly to aprons, and similar garments, having apron strings or the like secured thereto. n
An object of the invention is the provision of a garment having pockets for the reception of the strings, which will permit the string to be placed inside the pockets during laundering.
In washing aprons, and similar garments, having strings, a great deal of trouble and annoyance is encountered due to the fact that the strings catch in the machinery and also become entwined in other garments passing'through the machine. The strings frequently have to be cut off the garments before the garments can be removed from the machine.
It has heretofore been proposed to provide a sheath extending entirely across the front of an apron for the reception of the strings during laundering and the strings are placed in the sheath ywith the ends projecting therefrom in loops. Considerable time is required in placing the apron strings in a sheath eX- tending entirely across the front of the garment and the protruding loops are apt to become caught in the washing machinery and cause the string to be removed from the sheath.
In the present invention, I provide an apron or similar garment having pockets at each side and the end of the string is sewed in the pocket. The pocket is closed on three sides and partially closed on the fourth side and the string is adapted to be coiled and placed in the pocket. The string may be coiled by wrapping around a finger of the operator of the machine in a very slight space, of time, and when placed in the pocket, is protected during the washing of the garment.
In the accompanying drawings, I have shown one embodiment of the invention. In this showing:
Figure l 1s a front elevation,
Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional view on line 2-2 of Figure l, and,
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the apron showing one of the strings in the pocket.
Referring to the drawings, the reference numeral l designates an apron or other garment, having strings 2 secured at each side adjacent the top. The strings are adapted to be tied around the waist of the wearer of the garment to retainit in place. In constructing the garments, the strings are sewed or otherwise secured to the rear side adjacent the top and a sheet ofmaterial 3 is then arranged on the rear side of the garment to form a pocket. This sheet of material is sewed to the garment along its upper edge,
as at 4, and along the inside, as at 5. The bottom is sewed to the garment as at 6, and the outside sewed throughout a portionof its length as at 7, providing an opening 8 on the outside of the pocket adjacent the upper edge. As shown in Figure 2 of the drawings, the string projects through this opening. "When the garment is to be v laundered, the string is first coiled, as indcated at the left in Figure 3 of the drawings, and is then inserted in the pocket. When in the pocket, the string is fully protected during laundering and is prevented from becoming entwined in other garments or in the machinery.
It is to be understood that the form of myinvention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
I claim:
l.. A garment of the character described having tie strings secured thereto, provided with tie string receiving pockets arranged near the top on opposite sides thereof, each of said pockets being relatively deep vertically and relatively narrow horizontally and being closed at the top, bottom and inner side, the outer side of each pocket being closed at its lower portion and open at its upper portion, the tie strings being secured Within the said pockets.
A garment of the character described having tie strings secured thereto, provided with tie string receiving pockets arranged near the top on opposite sides thereof, each of said pockets being relatively deep vertically and relatively narrow horizontally l0 and being closed at the top, bottom and inner side, the outer side of each pocket being Closed at its lower portion and open at its upper portion, the tie strings being secured Within the said pockets at the upper portion adjacent the inner side thereof.
ln testimony whereof, I aix my signature.
SADIE E. GALLEMORE.
