LINKED PATENT WORK HOLDER.

Be it known that I, MINNIE Horn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chi cago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Iniprovements in lVork Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in work holders and more particularly to a device of this character especially adapted for use by dressmakers, tailors and other persons pursuing a similar occupation. The main object of the present invention is the provision of a work holder which can be conveniently attached to a sewing machine or the like for supporting articles used by dressmakers, tailors, etc, and which at the same time can also be used for attaching various types of work thereto, particularly articles which are to be ripped or cut by the person using the same.

Another object of the invention is the pro vision of a work holder which can be quickly and readily attached to a sewing machine or other stationary support and provided with means for normally retaining the device in a suspended position with respect to its support whereby the same may be readily accessible by the person using the same.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features in construction, the combination and an rangement of parts hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a front elevation illustrating my improved holder attached to a stationary support.

In the construction of my improved device I provide an attaching plate 1 having portions thereof disposed at an oblique angle to the intermediate portion of the plate to form the inclined portions 2, and the ends 3 of the plate are extended in opposite directions at the outer ends of the inclined portions 2 and provided with openings 4 whereby the device may be readily attached to a stationary support by means of screws or similar fastening members as shown in Fig. 1.

is arranged in spaced relation with the stationary support and is provided with a cen tral opening 5 through which the shank of the loop 6 is inserted and then headed over as at 7 to retain the same in position with respect to the plate 1. The loop 6 is formed of a single piece of wire or the like having its intermediate portion bent to form the loop with. one end extending at rightangles to the body of the loop and thence through the opening 5 in the plate 1 and then is loosely mounted within this opening. The other end of the loop is wrapped about the extended end 8 to securely retain the loop in its proper formation.

Suspended from the loop 6 is a fabric holder 9, said holder comprising two parallel arranged pieces having transverse stitchinglO and 11 therethrough forming a suitable pocket 12 intermediate the ends of the strips wherein a pencil or other article used by persons using the holder may be inserted so that the same will be readily accessible to the party using the holder.

It will be apparent that by forming the holder 9 of a fabric material. articles of clothing or the like may be readily attached to the holder by pinning or by similar fastening means so as to hold a portion of the article while the operator is working upon the same.

When the holder 9 is not in use, it is suspended beneath the stationary support as shown in Fig. 2. and in order to retain the same in this position, a weighted member 13 is attached to the lower end of the holder as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 and is of sufficient weight to retain the fabric holder in a suspended position as shown in the drawings. In the present instance this weighted member 13 is illustrated in the form of a loop engaged with the members which form the holder and having this loop portion substantially heavy as shown at 14 so that the weight of the same will be suliicient to retain the holder in a downwardly suspended position at all times when not in use.

From the foregoing it will be apparent that I have provided a simple and extremely useful device which may be quickly and readily attached to a sewing machine or other stationary support and be readily accessible at all times by the party desiring to use the same and while I have shown and described only one pocket 12 formed transversely between the members comprising the fill holder it will be apparent that other rows of stitching may be extended transversely ofthe member to form any number of pockets desired.

While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention I Wish it to be understood that various changes and alterations may be carried out during the manufacture of the same ithout departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.v

Having; thus described my invention What I claim is 1. In combination with an attaching plate, the central portion of said attaching plate being; offset laterally relative to. the ends and having an opening therethrough, of a fabric holder including spaced parallel side portions having spaced parallel rows of stitching intermediate its ends, a Weight attached to one end of the holder and means carried by the other'end for loosely connecting the said holder to the plate.
