PATENT OFFICE.
TALMIER N. TOLLEFSO N, OF SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA, ASSIGNOR OE ONE-TENTH T0 S. W. DAB/SON, OF BRANDON, SOUTH DAKOTA, AND NINE-TENTHS TO ANNA M. TOLLEFSO'N, OF SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA.
POCKET ATTACHMENT.
Application filed March 11, 1924. Serial No. 698,480.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TALMER N. ToLLEr- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sioux Falls, in the county of Minnehaha and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket Attachments, of whiohthe following is a specification. a t
This invention relates tonew and useful improvements inattachments for pockets of overalls, or the like, and has for its principal object to provide a means whereby Various kinds of tools, such as pliers, carpenter rules, or the like, may be held in the pocket against accidental loss or displacement when the person wearing the garment is in a' stooping, crouching, or sitting position.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a garment attachment of the above mentioned character, wherein elastic means is provided, for forming a restricted opening, for seating and supporting the tool inserted in the pocket against accidental displacement therefrom, and yet permits the ready removal of the tool whenever necessary.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the abovementioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable, and further well adapted for the purposes for which it is designated.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is an enlarged front elevation of a pocket, parts broken away, showing my attachment in position therein, and
Figure 2 is a transverse section, taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a portion of the garment, upon which is adapted to beistitched or sewed the pocket forming flap 2. Suitable stitching, such as is shown at 3 in the drawing, extends around the marginal edges of the flap 2, on the sides and bottom thereof for stitching the same to the garment, whereby a 'of material 4, formed preferably of rubber,
and this strip is secured, at its outermost side edges, by the stitching 3, to the sides of the flap 2,- and portion of the garment, to which the flap is'stitched. The elastic strip 4 is stitched along the upper longitudinal edge to the inner side of the flap 2, and this stitching, which is shown at 5 in the drawing, extends for the major intermediate portion of the strip, and terminates at its respective ends, at a point adjacent the sides of the flap, in a manner as clearly shown in Figure 1 of the drawing. Suitable stitching 6 extends from the upper central portion of the elastic strip 4 to the bottom portion thereof, in a manner as also clearly shown in the drawings.
The elastic strip 4: is further stitched along its sides to the garment 1, and this stitching, which is shown, at 7 and 8 in the drawings, extends from the outer ends of the stitching 5, on the upper portion of the elastic strip, and converges from the central bottom portion of the elastic strip, in the manner as clearly shown in Figure 1 of the drawing. In this manner, a restricted opening 9 is provided between intermediate portions of the elastic strip 1 and the garment 1, for the reception of the tool to be supported in the pocket.
By providing an elastic strip, in the manner as above described, when a pair of pliers or the like is inserted between the flap 2 and the garment 1, the head of the be caused to pass between the elastic strip 4, and the adjacent portion of the garment, as the opening formed by the elastic strip measures smaller toward the bottom thereof, the head of the pliers or the like being securely grasped by the elastic Webbing and lier will held in the pocket against accidental displacement, regardlessof the position of the person earing the garments.
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood side and bottom thereof, an elastic strip stitched at its ends to the inner sides of the flap, at the point where said flap is stitched to the garment, said elastic strip stitched along its upper longitudinal edge to said flap, the strip being further stitched adjacent the sides thereof to the garment forming an article receiving andholding means between the strip and the garment.
2. In a garment, a pocket forming 'fiap stitched thereto along the outer edges of the sides and bottom thereof, and elastic strips stitched at its side edges to the inner side of said flap, at the point Where said flap is stitched to said garment, said elastic strip being stitched along its upper longitudinal edge to said flap for the major intermediate portion thereof, the elastic strip being further stitched adjacent the side thereof to the garment, said last mentioned stitching converging from the upper portion of:
said strip toward the central bottom thereof, to provide a restricted opening between the garment and the strip.
3. In a garment, a pocket forming flap stitched thereto along the outer edges of the sides and bottom thereof, an elastic strip stitched at its side edges to the inner side, of said flap, at the point Where the flap is stitched to said garment, said elastic strip being stitched along its upper longitudinal edge to said flap for the major intermediate portion thereof, the elastic strip being further stitched adjacent the side thereof to the garment, said last mentioned stitching converging from the upper portion of said strip toward the central bottom thereof, to provide a restricted opening between the garment and the strip, said strip having a row of stitching onthe central portion of the flap and extending from the upper edge thereof to the lower edge of the same.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
TALMER N. TOLLEFSON.
