Description
Dec. 22, 1925' J. HETZER ET AL SWIMMING PURSE Filed Feb. 4, 1925 INVEN' I'Q S Ema/'11 J. BY j ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 22, 1925.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH HE'I'ZER, OF CORONA, AN D EBICH KOHLEOF, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SWIMMING PURSE.
Application filed February 4, 1925.
To all whom it may concemr Be it known that we, J OSEPH HETZER and Enron KoHLHor, citizens of the United States, residing at Corona and New York, respectively, in the counties of Queens and New York, respectively, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Swimming Purses, of which the following is a specification.
The main object of this invention is to provide a novel type of purse fitted for use on a bathing costume and provided with a pouch which when closed is impervious to water. 1
Another object is to provide a swimming purse having an attachment which is secured to the belt of the wearer and may be hingedly opened to permit the insertion of valuables and again closed in a manner to prevent seepage of water into the pouch.
The above and other objects will become apparent in the description below, in which characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the drawing Referring briefly to the drawing, Figure 1 is an illustration showing the method of applying the swimming purse.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the swimming purse.
Figure 3 is a side elevational view of Figure 2.
" Figure 4 is a fragmentary side elevational .view, showing thepouch in partly opened position.
Figure 5 is a top plan view of Figure 4. Figure 6 is a cross sectional view taken on line 66 of Figure 5, showing the waterproof joint at the open endof therpouch, the
sides being spread apart to illustrate the,
method of opening the same.
Figure 7 is a sectional side elevational view of Figure 3, taken on line 7-7 of Figure 3.
\Refcrring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 10 indicates the frame of the swimming purse. This frame is preferably composed of alight rigid metal and constitutes an elongated endless band which is encircled by a reenforcing rib 11, and at positions intermediate its length, is provided with stays 12 which serve as a means for positioning the flexible rubber web 13 in the position where it is locked. The front of the frame 10 is provided "with a boss 14 thru which a screw 15 having a knurled head 16, passes.
Serial No. 6,688.
and waterproof material such as rubber or the like. Said pouch is an elongated pocket having side walls spaced-apart from each other which are open on the top, and on the bottom have a flap integral therewith in which a button-hole 22 is formed, the button hole on the flaplbeing adapted to cooperate with a button 23 which is mounted on the trunks -24 of the bathing suit. The upper open end of the p uch has flexible strips 25 and 26 integral with the edges of the pouch walls and extend lengthwise and parallel to the side walls of the pouch. The strip 25 is provided with a triangular tongue 27 which extends thruout the length of the strip and is adapted to insert into a similarly formed triangular recess 28 formed in the to the frame of the device by a pivot pin 29 which is secured in the walls of the elon-v gated frame 10 and spans across the frame thru the walls of the pouch and also thru the strips 25 and 26.
The swimming purse is manipulated in the following manner. When desirin to open the purse when the latter is closed, as shown in Figure 2, the screw 15 is rotated by manipulating the knurled head in order to move the wedge bar toward the front of the frame 10, after which the pouch can be grasped and rotated about the pin 29 to a position similar to that shown in Figure 4, in which position, valuables such as coins, or necessities, such as cigarettes, may be secured in the chamber 30 of the ouch "13. When the pouch has been loade it may again be rotated to a position where the strips 25 and 26 lie between the walls of the frame 10. By again rotating the screw 15 in an opposite direction, the wedge bar 17 is moved toward the strip 26 of the pouch and both strips 25 and 26 are compressed so that the triangular-ridge 27 on the strip 25 enters into the recess 28 of the opposite strip 26 and seals the pouch chamber 30 so that seepage of water thru this joint, the only joint of the pouch, is impossible.
In order to permit the swimming purse to be worn or used with all types of apparel and by peo le who are arrayed in suits not provided with belts, the semi-circular ends of the frame 10 may be provided with eyelets, not shown, which are rigid with the frame thru which a shoulder strap may be slipped so that the entire purse may be suspended from the shoulder of the user.
We claim 1- 1. A. swimming purse comprising a rigid elongated frame, a resilient pouch rotatably mounted in said rigid frame, stays on the top of said frame intermediate its length, loop members mounted on said frame, resilient strips integral with the upper open edges of said pouch, said strips being adapted to be mutually spread to expose the chamber of the pouch, a triangular re cess extending longitudinally on one of said strips, a triangular ridge extending longitudina-lly on the opposite strip and being adapted to register in the recess of the firstnamed strip to form a leak-proof joint, and a wedge bar movable in said frame and being adapted to 4 mutually compress the pouch strips to seal the open end of said pouch.
2. A swimming purse comprising a rigid elongated frame, a resilient pouch rotatably mounted in said rigid frame, stays on the top of said frame intermediate its length,,
dinally on the oppositestrip and being adapted to register in the recess of the firstnamed strip to form a leak-proof joint, said wedge bar comprising a floating membermounted longitudinally in the frame, a screw rotatable insaid frame and adapted to pass loosely thru the wedge bar inter-' mediate its length, said screw supporting said wedge bar, said screw when rotated being adapted to compress the strips of the pouch to cause the triangular ridge on one strip to enter more firmly into the triangular recess of the opposite strip to form a leak-proof fit.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures.
JOSEPH HETZER. ERIOH KOHLHOF.
