UNITED STATES JOHN A. N. STOMBERG, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
HOSE-REEL DEVICE.
Application filed. June 29, 1925. Serial No. 40,188.
To all whom 2'25 may concern.
Be it known that I, JOHN A. N, STOM' BERG, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at Detroit, in thecounty of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented'anew and useful Hose-Reel Device, of which the following is a specification.
Itis an object of this invention to provide a hose reel device consisting of a door-like member pivotally mounted in a frame adapted to be built into the wall of a building, and to supply a hose reel on the inner side of the said member, so that when the latter is closed the hose reel is in position for use within the building, and when the said member is open the hose reel is in position for use outside the building. 7
Another object of the invention is to so arrange the door-like member that the hose rotates vertically when inside the building, and horizontally when outside the building, so that in the latter case the hose may with equal ease be taken in any horizontal direction.
A further object of the invention is to provide a hose reeldevice so designed that a hose, after use, can be put away inside a building without the necessity of either handling the hose itself, or wheeling or carrying a hose reel back into the building in which it is to be stored.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described with the aid of the accompanying drawings and claimed.
. In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a sectional view of the device in position in a wall of a building.
Figure 2 is an elevation from the outside of the building, and V Figure 3 shows a side elevation of the device with the hose reel in a horizontal position so that a hose thereon may be used outside the building.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates the wall of a building into which the frame 2 is built. On one of the edges, usually the lower, of the frame a door like member 3 is hinged as at 5, and the member 3 is secured when in closed position by means of a catch 4.
On the member 3 an element 6 is secured as by the bolts 7. The shaft 8 has a threaded end 9 which is in threaded engagement with the member 3, and the shoulder 10 of the shaft holds the member 11, which forms onev flange of the hose reel, in position. The
From the foregoing it will be clearly seen that I have devised a simple and inexpensive hose reel device, by whicha hose may be readily put in position to be used either inside or outside a building.
v While in the foregoing the preferred embodiment of the invention has been described and shown, it is understood that the construction is subject to such modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A hose reel device comprising a frame adapted to be built into a wall of a building, a door-like member pivotally mounted in said frame, and a hose reel so mounted on said member that when the latter is in closed position the hose reel may be rotated sub 5 stantially vertically within the building, and
when the said member is in open position the hose reel may be rotated substantially horizontally and is disposed partly outsidfi the building.
2. A hose reel device comprising a frame adapted to be built into a wall of a building,
a door-like member pivotally mounted in said frame and adapted to close an opening therein, means for holding said member in closed position, an element fastened to the inner surface of said member, a shaft se cured to said element, fiangesmounted on said shaft, a plurality of pins extending between said flanges, and means for rotating said flanges. I
3. A hose reel device as described in claim 2, wherein the reel is in a substantially vertical position when the door-like member is closed and in a substantially horizontal p0- sitionwhen said member is open.
JOHN A. N. STOMBERG.
