WALL CHUTE.

To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, WALTER HERBERT PRATT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wall Chutes, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to wall chutes and the principal object of my invention is to provide an inexpensive chute adapted to be placed in the wall of an already constructed house to permit material and newspapers to be delivered into the house while preventing the entrance of cold air. In the drawings accompanying this specification and forming a part thereof I have shown, for purposes of illustration, one form which my invention may assume. In these drawings:

Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of this illustrative embodiment, while Figure 2 is an elevation of the outside front.

' The chute herein illustrated comprises an outer section A and an inner section B. The outer section A comprises a face plate 11 provided with a flange 12 adapted to overlie the outer face of a Wall and an opening 13 adapted to receive the material to be delivered into the house and to be closed by an inwardly swinging door 14 pivoted at 15 to the side walls of a tube 16 which is of a rectangular crosssection slightly greater than the area of the door 14 and is formed integral with the face plate 11 as shown. The section B comprises a face plate 21 similar tothe face plate 11 and provided with a flange 22 adapted to overlie the inner face of the wall and an opening 23 through which the material inserted through the opening 13 may pass into the house. This opening 23 is adapted to be closed by a door 24: pivoted at 25 to the side Walls of a tube 26 which is of a rectangular cross-section substantially the same as the area of the door 2% and slightly greater than that of the tube 16 of the part A so that the tube 26 is adapted to telescope over the tube 16 to make a tight fit therewith while permitting extension and contraction of the distance between the face plates 11 and 21 to thus permit the chute to be fitted to walls of different thickness. For convenience and to avoid projections on which the matter, passing through the chute might catch the ends of the tubes 16 and 26 are beveled as shown at 17 and 27. The doors 14; and 24 may be held in closed position by suitable springs (not shown) and the spring actuated movement of these doors 14 and 24 may be limited by a beading 18 extending around the opening 13 of the face plate 11 and by a beading 28 extending around the door 24 except at the top where it"is integral with the face plate 11.

It will be understood from the above description that I have provided a chute which may be inserted in an already built house without difficulty or the necessitv of employing skilled labor or appreciably altering the house and that this chute while excluding cold air from the outside will nevertheless permit the insertion into the house of mail,

newspapers, and such matter. I am aware a that chutes have heretofore been provided for various purposes but upon examinin such of these as have been patented an others of which I have become aware I am not able to find one that is entirely satisfactory for the purpose or possesses the advantages possessed by the chute herein decribed. I appreciate that the chutes heretofore disclosed are not part of my invention and I do not claim them as sucha What I do claim as my invention is:

A wall chute comprising an outer tube adapted to extend inwardly from the exterior face of a wall, an inner tube adapted to extend outwardly from the interior face of a wall and to telescopically surround at least the end of said outer tube, a flange carried by said outer tube at the outer end thereof in a plane sub stantially perpendicular to the axis of saidtube adapted to overlie the exterior face of said wall adjacent said tube, a door carried by said outer tube at the outer end thereof adapted to normally close said tube but pivoted to swing into said tube into a position tube at the inner end thereof adapted to parallel to a Wall of said tube, a flange earnormally close said tube but pivoted to ried by said inner tube at the inner end swing from said tube into aposition parallel 10 thereof in a plane substantially perpendicuto a Wall of said tube.
