Patented Nov. 10, 1925.
ALEXANDER HUGO MICHAELS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
BILL FOLD.
Application filed January To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER HUGO MICHAELS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the .county of Kings, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bill Folds, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to bill-folds of the type in which a pocket is provided in which unfolded bills may be inserted and the pocket may then be folded to a size convenient for carrying in a persons pocket.
One disadvantage of bill-folds of the type described as they have ordinarily been constructed in the past, has resided in the fact that when a considerable number of bills are inserted and the fold is folded, the resulting package isunduly large becauseof the tendency of the inner portion of the fold. to wrinkle.
The object of my invention is to proyide a simple construction for a bill-fold of the type described, which will be adapted to hold a large number of bills, and which may be folded as desired without producing The novel features which characteristic of my invention are set forth .with particularity in the appended claims.
My invention itself, however, both as to its organization and method of operation, will best be understood by reference to the fol lowing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a perspective of my improved bill-fold when folded; Fig. 2 is a perspective of the fold when opened with a small portion cut away; and Fig. 3 is another similar perspective of the fold opened and in a position to be properly foldedwith a considerable thickness of bills in the bill pocket.
As indicated in the drawing, my improved hill-fold comprises a flexible outer member 1, which is slightly larger than a bank note. A flexible inner member 2, which is somewhat shorter than the outer member 1, is secured to the outer member along the end 3 and along a portion 4 only of one side,
the end of the inner member being unsecured to the outer member. I also provide a pocket 6 into which the free end of the inner member is inserted. This pocket is secured to the outer member along the end 7 andthe side portion 8, and thus with mem- I believe to be 5, 1923. Serial No. 610,779.
hers I and 2 completes the pocket 9 in which bills may be inserted.
10 is provided which also extends through vthe outer member 1.. A tab 11 is inserted through this opening and secured to the free end 5 of the inner member 2. When the bill-fold is nearly empty the tab 11 and the free end 5 of inner member 2 will occupy the position shown in Fig. 2when the billtold is. ready to be folded. If, however. the pocket 9 contains a large number of bills the tab 11 may be pulled out as indicated in Fig. 3, thus making the inner side .of pocket 9 shorter than the outer side. The package may then be folded into compact form without any tendency for the bills or the fold to wrinkle and thus make a more bulky package.
A clasp member 12, which is secured to the end of the tab 11 cooperates with another clasp member 13, which is secured to outer member 1 to hold the fold in folded" position. It will be noted that as the thickness of the package is increased the length of the tab 11, which projects from the pocket 6 must be increased and the length of the projecting tab is thus automatically increased to meet the increased length of tab necessary to bring the-two clasp members together. I r
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be apparent that it is by no means limited to the precise structure shown, but that many modifications in the form and arrangement of the different elements making up the completed article may be made with-' out departing from the scope of invention as set forth in the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desirevto secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is 1. A bill-fold comprising a flexible outer member, and a flexible inner member which is shorter than the outer member, saidinner m'ember being attached to the outer member along one end and-along substantially one-third onlyof one side adjacent the end which is attached. I
2. A bill-fold comprising a flexible outer member, a flexible inner member which is shorter than the outer member and which is attached to the outer member along one end and along substantially one-third only of one side adjacent the end which is attached,
and a pocket attached to said outer member in which the free end of the inner member is inserted. i
- 3. A bill-fold comprising a flexible outer member, a flexible inner member which is shorter than the outer member and which is attachedto the outer member along one end and along substantially one-third only of one side adjacent the end which is attached, and a'pockct attached to said outer member at one. end .in which the free end of the inner member is inserted and is free to move.
4. A bill-told comprising a flexible outer member, a flexible inner member which is shorter than the outermemberand which is attached to the outer member along one end and a portion only ofcone side, a pocket attached to said outer member at one end in which the free end of the inner member is inserted and is free to move, and means outside of said pocket for moving the free end of the inner member with respect to the pocket.
5. A bill-fold comprising a flexible outer member, a flexibleinner member which is shorter than the outer member, and which is attached to the outer member along one end and a portion only of one side, a pocket atmember, a flexible inner member which is --;shorter than the outer member, and which is attached to the outer member along one end and along substantially one-third only of one side adjacent the end which is attached, and a pocket which is attached to said outer member along the opposite end and along a portion of one side, the end of said inner member which is unattached to the outer,
member being inserted in said pocket.
8. A bill-fold comprising a flexible outer member, a flexible inner member which is shorter than the outer member, and which is attached to the outer member along one end and a portion only of one side, a pocket which is attached to said outer member along the opposite end and along a portion of one side, the end of said innermember which is unattached to the outer member being inserted in said pocket, an opening in the bottom of said pocket, and a tab which passes through said opening and is secured -to the unattached end of the inner member for moving said end with respect to said pocket. I
9. A bill-fold comprising a flexible outer member, a flexible inner member which is shorter than the outer niember and which is attached to the outer member along one end 4 tached to said outer member in which the l a porti n 0 050119 slde, a Pocket free end'of the inner member is inserted, and .a tab secured to the free end of the inner member for moving it with respect to the pocket.
which is attached to said outer member along the opposite end and along a portion of one side, the end of said inner member which is unattached to the outer mem- .'A bill-fold comprising a flexible outer be? being inserted in Said P an p in mber, ,a flexible inner member which is shorter than the outer member and which is.
attached to the outer member along one end and a portion only of one side, a pocket mg in the bottom of said pocket, a tabwhich passes through said opening-and is secured to the unattached end of the inner member for moving said end with res ect to attached to said outer member in which the Said Pbcketfind clasp member on t e and free end of the inner member-is inserted, an opening in the bottom of said pocket, and-a tab which passes through saidopenin'g and is secured to the free end of the inner member. 7. A bill-fold comprising a flexible outer of said tab which cooperates with a clasp -member on the outer'member to hold the bill-fold in a folded position. I
vIn witness whereof, I have hereunto set no my hand this 2nd day of January, 1923.
ALEXANDER HUGO MICHAELS.
