L. ENGEL STATION FINDER FOR TIME TABLES Filed March 14. 1925 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented Nov. 1925.
UNITED STATES LEO ENGEL, 0F ASBURY PARK, NEW JERSEY.
STATION FINDER FOR TME TABLES.
Application filer, trafen i4, 1925. serial no. net.
To all whom t may conce/m:
Be it known that I, Lito ENGEL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident oi" Asbury4 Parli, county ot Monmouth, and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Station Finders tor Time Tables, of which the following is a speciication.
The object of this invention is to provide an article intended to be used in connection with railroad time tables or the like, to enable the user ot the same to more readily locate train data appearing on the time table. The tables in use at the present time are oi considerable length and bear a Alist of the stations near one ot their ends. lt is with considerable diliieulty that' a person is able to trace the time at which the various stations are reached by the various trains, especially' when the data regarding a particular train is located at some distance on the sheet from the point where the list of stations is located on the table. The main obs ject, therefore, ot' this invention, is to provide a simple and inexpensive device which will bear the list of stations as they appear, in both directions, and which may be moved on the time table to a position adjacent to the data appearing thereon relating to any train in which the user may be interested, thus enabling the user to ascertain all of the facts regarding the train without having to trace the various stations across the time table.
lilith these objects, and such other objects as may hereinafter appear, in view, I have devised the particular arrangement ot parts hereinafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof, in which-- Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of a time table, showing my improved linder as the same appears when in use;
Figure 2 is a sectional View on the line 21A- 2 ot Figure 1, loolring in the direction et the arrows;
Figure is a plan view of one end of the tinder showing the same in an unfolded or flat position;
"mig-i e elis a perspective view ot the ier, -iowing the opposite side ot the same that shown in Figure 1, and' Figure 5 is a perspective view clearly showing the central slot with which the finder is provided, and through which the time table is adapted to be moved.
Throughout the various views or the drawings, similar reference characters designate similar parts.
ln the preterred embodiment of my invention, as disclosed in the accompanying drawing, l have shown my improved linder as being composed of a single sheet or piece of thin and flexible material, such as strong but flexible pasteboard, celluloid, libre or thin metal. rlhe same is composed of two flaps 1 and 2, which are ot greater length than the width ot the time table on which the article is intended to be used. At 3 is indicated a told line which is located between the flaps, and the device is intended to be longitudinally folded upon this line 3. Located directly upon the told line 3 is a slit d, which is of greater length than the width of the time table, and said slit 1- is provided with enlarged en ds 5, so that tearing or enlarging of the slit at its ends during the use of the article is prevented.
0n the tace of the flap 1 is provided a list of stations 6 which list corresponds to the list ot' stations appearing on the time table at 7. @n the rear face of the flap 2 appears a list of stations appearing on the time table at verse order to those appearing on the list indicated at 6.
The manner in which the article is used will be readily apparent from the foregoing. The time table 8 is passed through the slit 4 and the flaps l and 2 are folded with respect to one another so that the list of stations 6 on the vflap 1 appears over the list 7 on the time table. Assuming that the user is interested in the train data appearing as at 9. To use the finder, he simply moves the same along on the time table, or draws the time table through the slit d, until the list of stations 6, appearing on the flap 1 becomes located in juxtaposition to the train data 9. lf interested in trains going in the opposite direction, the time table is turned over on its opposite face, where the list of trains going in the desired direction usually appears, and without withdrawing the time table from its position in the slit 1, the iaps 1 and 2 are folded bach against one another so that the list of stations appearing on the flaps 2 at 8 is outermost. This list 8 corresponds to the list l0 appearing on the back face l1 of the time table, and the finder .is moved along until it lies adjacent te the data ritter-.ting the train in -which the user is interested.
Having described my invention, what l claim is:
l. An article of the class described comu prising a sheet having a pair or reversible flaps separated by a igle feld line, a slit en said fold line through which e time table is adapted te he inserted, a list o` stations en one ot Hans corresponding to a list of stations appearing; en one tace et the time tablej and a list elf stations en the other flap cerrespondii j to iist ef stations appearing` on the other iace et' the time table.
2. in article et the class described comprising;- a sheet termed with tiro connecting` flats. a i' ld line between the iaps, a slit on tie line et sa 'd told, and a list oit stations on each of said deps.
in article of the ciaf' described ceniprising;` a sheet folded to ferm a pair ot iiaps, a slit in said sheet through which a time table is adapted to Jpass, a list et1 stations on one of said iaps and a list ot' stations on the other iiap appearing in a reverse direction to those on the first mentioned list.
1l. in article ot the class described comprising a sheet folded te term a pair of connected flaps. e slit entendinglongitudinally cf the sheet and located en the line oit the told, a list et train stations appearing on @ne face oi one o t' the itlaps.` and a list ot stations arrangeiil in reverse positions appearing on the bat-l2; tace et the other hap.
An article ot the class described comp isingj a sheet ot' flexible material havinga central leW vitiidinally extending slit through which a time table is adapted to pass, said sheet being adapted to ifcld on the line of seid siitVH a list ci stations on one face of the sheet adjacent to the slit7 and a list of stations in reverse position on the haclr face of the sheet adjacent to the slit.
G. fin article o the class described comrisingr a sheet divided to form a pair of 'ai s, a slit located between said flaps, a list ci stations on one tace ot the sheet adjacent te the slit end a list et said stations in reverse order en the opposite face of the sheet adjacent to the slit.
Sifmed at cit7 of 'Blew York, county of New York and State or" New York, this 13th da.;7 of Marchj 1925.
