To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Nomus H. PAxsoN, a cltizen of the United States, residing at Newport News, in the county of VVa'rwick and State of Virginia, have invented cer-- a grater from one'piec-e of metal thereby eliminating manufacturing steps incident to the joining of several pieces in" one structure. The stem or handledesignated by the reference numeral 1 is hollow and, preferably, cylindrical and open at both ends, one end being closed by a block 2 which is held in position by means of the tag or similar device 3. A follower 4 is slidably mounted within the handle 1 and is provided in its lower face with a recess 5 within which one end of a coil spring 6 is seated, the other end of the spring being seated on the block 2. The upper end of thefollower is concaved and is covered with a roughened plate 7.

The arms 15 and 16 are provided with journal bearings which will be hereinafter referred to. V

A .wire 21 is passed lengthwise through the grater andthrough the perforations of the lugs 20 on one Sld} of the grater while the wire 22 is similarly passed through the perforations of the lugs 20 on the other side of the grater, said. wires being bent at right angles toward each other immediately outside of the ends of the grater thereby forming spokes 22 for the grater. These wires are twisted together as at 23 in the plane of the axis of the grater to form journals which are seated in the journal bearings of the arms 15 and 16. These wires 21 and 22 are of greater length. at one end of the grater than" at the other and are twisted together and bent to form an operating crank 24.

As will be seen from Figure 1, the stem 1, grater housings 13,- 15, 16, and guard25, are formed in a single integral blank, the side edges of the blank being recessed so that when the edges are brought together these recesses will. form the elongated slot 9.
