MOUNTING OF THE DRUM IN HOUSEHOLD GRATERS Filed NOV. 24, 1947 INVENTOR.
Y B WM 5.5%,
Patented July 29, 1952 OF" THE DRUM- INJ'HOUSEHOLD GRATERS.
Jean Mantelet, Bagnolet, France, assignor, by mesne assignments, to' Le Moulin-Legumes Corporation, Wilmington;D'el., .acorporationof Delaware AnplicationNoyember 24, 1947', Serial Nb. 787,834 InFranceOctober 10,1947
The'presentinvention has'for-its' object to provideimprovements in the'mounting of the rotary drum; of portable household graters-of the type comprising a magazinesecured to" a-handleand intended to contain the substance to be grated, a'" drum' forming a grater secured to a crank enabling a rotary movement to'be imparted'to it about its axis, and a'pusherpivotally connected to the .handle and'adapted to penetrate into the magazine? so: as to 'urge the substance to be ground, contained in themagazine; against: the drum.
In'all the prior'household' graters' thus constructed', the drum; is journalle'd' at' each of its ends" either" in' a; cylindrical bearing surface extending all" around its periphery, or in two" symmetrical parts of bearing surfaces whic'hmay. be arrangedlaterally or at thezt'op and'bottom parts of thedrum, it being possible, in particular in this lattercase; for one ofsaid bearing'surf'a'ces to be formed: by'the lower edge of the magazine.
Thegrate'r according to the inventionis disti'nguished by'the mounting oftherotary drum and is characterised by'thefollowing, main points which may exist separately'o'r in combination: a: 'ITh'e' drum is suspended from the magazine by attaching means having on either side of the drum at least three bearing points, two of which are located outside and the third inside. the drum or vice-versa, the third bearing point being arranged symmetrically with respect to the two first'ones, whereas blockingmeans are provided to. prevent anymovement of the drum in axial blocking means are mounted .on the. grater body.
e. The attaching means and/or the blocking means comprise rotary members which are rotated by contact with the drum.
1. The same members simultaneously perform the function of attaching means and blocking means.
g. The grater body is provided. on one side, at its lower edge; with an annular fiangethe crosssection of which is of the shape of an inwardly facing; groove and which is adapted to accommodate one of the'circular'ed-ges' of the drump-rovi'ded'with a. flangeat right angles thereto. while the opposite lower edge of the magazine isv provided with a rightangle flange adapted-to engage the im'rer face of an annular flange,
2. U-shaped cross-section, having an inwardlyfaci-ng-groove provided" at the other circularedg'e: of thedrum anddirected towardsitsmedial portion, a blocking means being adapted to be placed on either-side of the drum so as to prevent any axial movement of said drum.-
The invention furthermore. includes other features which will become apparent from the ensuingdescription and from the accompanying drawing, inwhich:
Fig. l is a perspective viewpf a preferred embodiment of the present invention", and
Fig. Z'is-a vertical-central longitudinal section, on a larger scale, o-fthe-embodiment shown in Fig; 1.
In the-modification-shown'in Figsa-l and 2;, the grater body and'hopper 2 is provided on'oneside, at the lower part thereof, with a semi-circular attaching means I! of U-shaped cross-section adapted'toreceive one circularedge-of the'drum I prov-idedwith a vertical flange 18. The upper part oi the flange H is-provided with an elongated" opening |9- into which can penetrate a swinging bolt 20* which is pivoted at 2| 0n the grater" body 2:
The other side of the grater body-2' has at the lower part'thereof a circularrecess adapted toaccommodatethe drum 1; the edge'of said recess is bent over at right angles so as to form a flange 23 adapted to co-operate with the upper part of a" circular flange 2% of U-shaped cross-section formed on the circular edge of the drum 1' 0pposite' the end provided withthe right angle flange I 8:
The movement of the drum 1 in the-vertical direction islimited'by the U-shaped'flange' I 1 cooperating with the flange I8; on" the one hand,
and by the flange 23 cor-operating with the U-shaped flange 22. The axial movementof the drum'is limited by the vertical flange l8 confined between the vertical portion of the U shaped flange H and the bolt 20.
To remove the drum, it is only-necessary to swingthe bolt'ZG about its pivot'2'l so as to withdraw it from the opening |9,. thereby enabling the drum to be removedby an axial movement towards the left of Fig. 2'.
I'claim:
I. In a household grater in combination, a grater body; a tubular grater drum having, an inner and an. outer drum. face and having two opposite circular edges; an annular flange arranged along one of saidlopposite circular edges of said tubular grater-drum. forming. along said edge an annular inwardlyfacing groove positioned outside, said. tubular grater drum; first attaching means arranged on said grater body along the other of said opposite circular edges of said tubular grater drum, and including arcuate groove-shaped supporting means engaging said tubular grater drum along said other circular edge thereof so as to support said grater drum along said edge; second attaching means arranged on said grater body along the first mentioned of said opposite edges of said tubular grater drum engaging the inner surface of said annular inwardly facing groove formed by said annular flange arranged along said first mentioned opposite edge of said tubular grater drum; and blocking means on said grater body prevent ing sliding of said tubular grater drum in axial direction.
