JAMES J. PARIS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMns J. PARIS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, in the, county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Collar-Attaching Means; and I hereby declare that the following'is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the numerals of reference marked thereon, which form a part vof this specification.

This invention relatesto a collar attaching means and comprises an'offset member on the rear of the collar adapted for insertion in a suitable slit in the back of the neck band of the shirt for anchoring the collar thereto.

The invention consists of the novel structure and combinations hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out and defined in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings which illustrate a preferred embodiment of this invention and in which similar reference numerals refer to similar features in the different views.

Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevational view of a shirt with my improved collar attached thereto.

Figure 3 is a rear elevational view of the collar attached to a shirt with a part broken away.

Figure 4 is a fragmentary elevational view of a shirt with the rear part 'of the neck band reversed.

As shown on the drawings:

In referring to the drawings the reference numeral 1 indicates the collar band on a shirt having a vertical slit 2 for receiving the offset tongue 3 on the collar 4. This offset tongue is preferably stamped or cut from the collar as shown in Figure 3.

ment to the shank of a collar button. This collar is therefor adapted to be attached to the band of the shirt by either the tongue 5 engaging through a suitable slit as shown in Figures 1 and 2 or by the usual collar button inserted in the slit 6.-

In Figures 1 and 4.1 have an improved construction whereby the usual front collar button is eliminated. In these constructions a securing tape is sewed to the inside of the shirt neck band at 7*. collar in position .said tape is engaged through the front collar button holes of the shirt as shown in Fig. 4 and subsequently through the button holes in the front of the collar 4 as shown in Figure 1 and then laterally and upwardly through a securing aperture or opening 8 in a usual collar flap 9, the freeend of said tape 7. being engaged under said flap. Said securing tape 7 is preferably made in tubular form at 10 to facilitate the engagement thereof through the button holes.

It will accordingly be observed that this invention provides efficient means for securing a collar in proper position and at the To secure the same time eliminating the usual collar but- 7 tons both front and rear. The devices provided are inexpensive, comfortable and may be easily adjusted. I

I am aware that many changes may be made, and numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted hereon, otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.

I claim as my invention:

The combination with a shirt. neckband, of a collar having an aperture in one of its flaps, and a securing tape sewed to the inside of said neckband and formed tubular intermediate its length and flattened at its ends, said tubular portion adapted to engage through the front collar button holes of said neokband and then through the front button holes of the collar, the free flattened end of said tape adapted to engage said collar flap aperture. l
