Description

Get 13, 1925- B.,ANSEHL APPLICATOR Filed Nov. 11, 1922 Patented a. 13, 1925.
UNITED STATES BENJAMIN ANSEHL, 01
PATENT OFFICE.
s'r. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR or ONE-HALF 'ro ANTHONY :r. ou'rwnmnn, or ST. LOUIS, mssoum.
Application filed November 11, 1922. Serial No. 800,390.
- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN 'AJNSEHL, a
citizen of the United States, residing in the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Applicators, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in applicators, and more particularly to a toilet device for applying a paste-like substance, such as rouge, in patches of predetermined design, or configuration, upon the skin, especially the lips.
The prevailing practice now is to employ what is familiarly known as a lipstick, or pencil, comprising coloring matter, such as rouge, for heightening the color of selected areas, or patches, of skin, particularly the lips, or fleshy border of the mouth. The operation now requires a mirror for the guidance of the penciling in the delineation of the color patch to a desired design or contour and demands the utmost precision and skill, especially in the shaping of the bow of the upper lip: with its two sides, or halves, of substantially identical appearance.
The object of my invention is to provide a device, on applicator, having a surface contowed to simulate an anatomical area,
whose color is to be changed or heightened, to which surface a coloring medium is applied and transferred to the anatomical area by a simple imprinting, thereby making it possible for a person of ordinary skill to apply a color patch of predetermined contour in an expeditious manner and being relieved of the tedium usually attending Such act.
- My improvements consist in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts, as hereinafter fully, clearly and concisely described, definitely pointed out in my claims and illustrated by the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a rear face view of an applicator embodying my improvements, Fig. 2 is a side elevation, Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional elevation, Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3, showing a modified form of parting line in the imprinting surface, and Fig. 5 is a view similar to Figs. 3 and 4., showing a modified form of body or manipulative element for the imprinting surface.
- Referring by numerals to the drawing, 6 designates the body portion of the device, which is preferably constructed of soft rubber, or its equivalent, and provided with an imprinting surface 7, shaped, both .sectionally and in contour, to conform with an anatomical area, such as the lips or fleshy border of the mouth, as shown. Extending from the body 6, and preferably formed integral therewith, is a handle, or manipulative element 8, which, in the form shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, is hollow, provided with a threaded neck 9, and screw-cap 10, and its interior is in communication with the im-- printing surface 7 by a plurality of perforations 11. 1
With this form of device the paste-like substance may be carried in the device and the substance, by pressure on the hollow handle, moves to the imprinting surface through the perforations, and the thus supplied imprinting surface is then pressed upon the skin to imprint the substance thereon.
In order to prevent the application of the substance to a limited portion of the anatomical area, within the im rinting area, as a whole, as, for instance, t e inner ortion of theparting line of the upper an lower lips, -I rovide means for interrupting the imprinting surface, such as the outstanding septum 12, as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, or the channel or groove'12, shown in Fig. 4. In Fig. 5, the manipulative element "8 is formed as asolid body and the imprinting surface 7" made imperforate. I
I claim: a
1. An applicator, constructed of soft rubber and comprising an imprinting surface and a hollow body .in communication with the imprinting surface, and means for insurfaces, whereby the device may be applied terruptmg said surface. a to both lips in one operation, the cosmetic 2. An applicator for applying a cosmetic matter definitely located, and by said inter- 10 to the lips of the human mouth comprising ruption prevented from application to the i a surface shaped to conform with the upper Inner portions of both hps at their parting lip;a surface shaped to conform with the line. lower lip, and an mterruption between said BENJAMIN ANSEHL.
