DEVICE FOR USE IN APPLYING LIP STICK Filed May 9, 1933 Patented Jan. 23, 1934 UNITED STATES DEVICE FOR USE IN APPLYING LIP STICK Martha, Libby, New Haven, Conn. ApplicatioiiMay 9, 1933. Serial No. 670,068
4 Claims.
When lipstick is used, care must be taken to have the outline even and the two sides of the lips correspond. This is difiicult to achieve with the ordinary lipstick.
Devices in the form of guards have been produced to set over the mouth, with an opening to be filled in with lipstick; but one objection to such devices is that it is difiicult to hold the devices in place and at the same time form addstinct outline.
The object of this invention is the production of a device by which the outline desired may be printed upon the lips, this outline being formed to accomplish the desired effect.
The invention consists in a device formed from metal, the inner surface to be coated with lipstick and then pressed against the lips in the desired position, so as to provide an outline which may be readily filled in with an ordinary lipstick,
and the invention also consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a device for use in applying lipstick, constructed in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a top View of the same;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a device for applying lipstick to the upper lip;
Fig. 4 is a top view of the same;
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a device for applying lipstick to the lower lip;
Fig. 6 is a top view of the same;
Fig. '7 illustrates the impression made upon the lips by the device shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 8 illustrates the impression produced by the device shown in Fig. 3; and
Fig. 9 illustrates the impression produced by the device shown in Fig. 5.
In carrying out my invention, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, the device consists of an upper-lip bar 10, a lower-lip bar 11, and the ends of the bars united to form handles 12 and 13. The bars are curved or bowed to producethe desired form and, preferably, the lower bar will be provided with a pointer 14 to assist in locating the device in the center of the mouth. Preferably, the spaces at the angles formed by the meeting ends of the bars are filled in by plates 15.
Instead of connecting the two bars together, they may be formed separately.
Thus, in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawing, I have shown an upper-lip bar 16 of the desired outline,
' and on opposite sides of the center are plates 1'7 for the purpose as will hereinafter appear, and in Figs. 5 and 6 I have shown a device for the lower lips, consisting of a bar 18 corresponding to the desired outline. If desired, this bar may be provided with a pointer 19 and on each side of the pointer with plates 20, the bars 16 and 18 being respectively provided at their ends with handles 21 and 22. v
In use, the inner surface of the device is covered with lipstick and is then pressed against the lips, so'as to imprint thereon the desired outline. Thus, Fig. 7 shows the outline of lipstick applied to the-two lips by the device shown in Fig. 1, producing a bowed line 23 on the upper lip and a bowed line 24 on the lower lip, and if the plates 15 are employed, these will fill in the angles formed between the ends of the lines 23 and 24.
Fig. 8 illustrates the impression from the device shown in Fig. 3, producing an impression 25 on the upper lip.
In Fig. 9 is shown an impression produced by the device shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing and producing an impression 26 on.the lower lip. These impressions give the desired outline, so that the lips above or below the outlines may be readily filled in with an ordinary lipstick with the assurance that the outline will be even.
These devices mayv be produced in various forms or curves according to the effect desired, and when it is determined what curves produce the best result, a device may be made to follow such curves and thus always assure the same result.
This device, in making the impression, can be held by both hands, Whereas other devices for guiding a lipstick must be held with one hand and obviously it will be more diflicult to maintain it in the desired position, so that irregularities occur.
I claim:
1. A device for printing in lipstick an outline of the desired design directly upon the lip surfaces to be colored, the said device comprising a metal bar bowed to the desired outline and provided at its ends with finger-grips for stiffening it and pressing it uniformly against the lips and removing it therefrom, preparatory to manually filling in the outline in lipstick, the rear face of the said bar being adapted for the adherence of lipstick and the outer edge forming the outer edge of the desired design.
2. A device for printing in lipstick an outline of the desired design directly upon the lip surfaces to be colored, the said device comprising upper and lower bars conformed in outline to the ll.
desired design and provided at their ends with unitary finger-grips for uniting and stiffening them and pressing themuniformly against the lips and removing them therefrom, preparatory to manually filling in the outline in lipstick, the rear faces of the said bars being adapted for the adherence of lipstick and their outer edges form ing the outer edges of the desired design.
3. A device for printing in lipstick an outline of the desired design directly upon the lip surfaces to be colored, the said device comprising a metal bar bowed to the desired outline and provided on opposite sides of its center with enlarged printing surfaces, the outer edges of the bar and said enlarged surfaces conforming to the outline of the lip surface to be colored, and the bar being forwardly offset near its ends and terminating in finger-grips which stiffen the bar and provide for uniformly pressing the same upon the lips in the act of printing and for removing it therefrom, preparatory to manually filling in the outline in lipstick made by the device.
4. A device for printing in lipstick an outline of the desired design directly upon the lip sur faces to be colored, the said device comprising upper and lower bars bent to conform to the desired outline to be colored and offset forwardly near their ends and terminating in finger-grips by which they are united and by which the device is pressed uniformly against the lips for printing the desired outline and by which it is removed therefrom, preparatory to manually filling in the outline with lipstick, and the said bars being provided near their ends, inside of the said fingergrips, with printing surfaces to fill in the said outline at its ends.
