manner, K while applicable "to automobiles generallyy in l abroad sense, my, present pedal sense, is designedprimarily antl'especially for use `inconjunction with automobiles of the Ford type, and is so illustrated and de- 'scribed herein-the object beingy to'afford simple, inexpensive, but effective and positive means for securely clasping and holdinfr the pedals of such a car against clandestine movement, Vand `the combination n consisting 1n the specific construct1on,com
bination and arrangement of parts and 'appurtenances described and claimed, a y dis-k c tinctive Afeature being the provision of super-imposable,V interlocking clasp plates individually hingedto the foot board of lthe car and. adapted to engage with the sides of the pedal slots of said foot board'in such manner as to prevent Vmovement of y'the pedals while such clasping plates are in superposed position, thereby safe-guarding the car against surreptitious manipulation or `movement, all as hereinafter fully set forth. n
In the accompanying drawings I illustrate a practical embodiment ofthe essential features of my invention ask applied to the foot board of an automobile ofthe Ford type, although I do not limit myself to the identical forni and construction of parts 'and appurtenances shown herein by way of exemplification, since changes in minor details may be made, and equivalent mechanical expediente resorted to with like results, and without departing from the spirit! and intent of my invention in this respect.Y
With this understanding z-f Fig. 1, represents diagrammatically the location and application of my complementarypedal clasp plates on the footboard of -acar ofthecharacter designated; f

Fig. 9,'1s an end view thereof;y
Fig. 1(7), is a front elevat-ion ofk the lower clasp plate; f
Fig. l1, an end view thereof.
The foot board B, formed with the usual three parallel pedal slots, 7)', for the gear pedal p, Z22 Vfor the reverse pedal 292,'and b3, for the brake pedal p3, said slots and pedals being of the usual construct-ion, and func'- tioning Y as heretofore in a manner well known in the prior state of the art, so that description of operation is unnecessary in this respect, my invention relating solely to means for securely holding said pedals in prescribed positions assumed thereby when p the car is at rest. f
To this end my present contrivance consists of two co-related complementary clasp platea-mi. e. a base or upper plate A, hinged to and adapted to rest directly upon the upper side of the foot board B, and a lower plate C, also hinged to the foot board B,
and adapted` to fit and overlap in part thev upper plate A, as shown more particularly in Figs.l 6 and 7, of the drawings.
The two clasp plates A and C, are releasably connected in locked relationship by means of a lock L, preferably ofthe Yale type, or the equivalent thereof, the lock being mounted on one plate, and its bolts Z, Z, being engagable with mortises m, m, in the otherplate as may be found most expedient. In the particular arrangement shown in the drawings the lock L, mounted on the upper plate A, and bolts Z, Z, are engageable with mortises m, m, formed for the purpose in the plate C.
The clutch plates A and C, may be hinged to the foot board by any desired or suitable mechanical expedient. As shown by way of exemplification, knuckle plates K, K, are attached to the underside of the foot board B, and are formed with knuckle tongues 7c, 7c, protruding through the pedal slots b, Z22, 3, as indicated more particularly in Figs. fl and 7, of the drawings.
The upper plate A, is formed with recesses a', a2, a3, coincident with the pedal slots t Z22, 3, in the foot board B, and in an analogous manner the lower plate C, is recessed, as at 0, c2, c, and coincident with said pedal slots b2, 3, the edges of said recesses, when the clutch plates A, C, are closed upon thefoot board B, locking the pedals against movement substantially as and for the purpose set forth in my aforesaid concurrent application Ser. No. 725,- l32,-it being understood that any similar combination and arrangement of recesses or offsets on the clutch platesfor engagement with the pedals may be resorted to with like result.
of said plates.
rthe clutch plates A, C, when opened up as shown in Fig. Il, of the drawings, do not impede in any way the action of the pedals inthe usual manner.
That I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. In pedal locking means, a foot board, two co-related opposed complementary clasp plates hinged at their outer edges to said foot board to fold bodily toward each other and to overlap in folded position, said clasp plates being recessed upon adjacent edges to engage and hold the pedals in prescribed position, and means extended lengthwise of said plates and engageable in opposed lateral ino 1tises in one of said plates.
2. ln pedal locking means, a foot board,
two co-related opposed complementary clasp plates hinged along their outer edges to said foot board to fold bodily toward each other and to overlap at their adjacent edges in folded position, said clasp plates being recessed in adjacent edges to engage and hold the pedals in prescribed position, and means centrally disposed on one of said clasp plates and extended lengthwise `of the same and extended across adjacent recesses and engageable in opposite lateral mortises in one HAROLD THORNE.
