w. c. BUCKLEY TOOTHBRUSH HOLDER Filed July 2, 1924 www@ " rammed sepa 22.119245,l I I UNITED STATES' PATENT OFFICE..
WILLIAM C. yBUCKLEY,l F CBOOKSTON, MINNESOTA.
'roo'rHnnUsH Homann.
Application med July 2,
To all who-m 1t-may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. BoxLnY,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Crookston, in the county of Polk and State useful Improvements'in a Toothbrush Holder, of which the following is a specification.
' This invehtion relates to an -improved holder or receptacle for tooth-brushes, theI primary object of which is to-provide' a device of this character which will enclose the bristles of the brush and retain same in a .sanitary condition.
' A further 'object-of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will i :support a plurality of brushes and will keepthe same properly spaced apart.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character having means for ermitting the circulation of air through tile same for drying the brushes. f
A still further ob'ect of the invention is the revision of a evice of this character whic is ofsimple construction, durable, and eicient for this purpose.
Other objects and advantages of this'in- 1vention will be apparent during the course of the following escription.
' In the accompanying drawing forming a partvof this specification andinfwhich like numerals `are employed to designate like 'parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 1s a front elevation of the invenlacedl therein, K Figure 2 1s a side e evation of the same,
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view takenv u on the line 3--3 of Figure 1,
which is substantially rectan rFigure i is an enlarged plan view of improved holder, andl l f gure 5 is a transverse sectional view.
1 taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 4.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown' the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 10 generally designates the casin orholder ar in shape and rovided with rectangular openings 11 cut om the lower Irtionv of the sides and similar but sma` er openingsv 12 cut from the upper portions thereof. The back, sides and end walls of the casinglO may be' constructed of some light metal, celluloid or 4any desirable material, a'retangular plate 13 of the same material being`po sitioned at the'upper extremityof the cas- 1924. Serial No. 728,828.
ing'rfront. The'greater ortion of the front of Minnesota, have invented certain new and. It is also tobe understood that the device may be of any desired shape in'order to retain any desirable number of brushes, the size of the container varying accordin to `kind and number of brushes itis desire A to to enclose therein.
1 The upper portion of the casing 10 comportion of the front plate 13. It is obvious that this lid will be permitted to swingV upwardly and downwardl about the pivot rod to permit insertion o the tooth-brush.
As it is desirable to normally retain the lid in a horizontal position Iiprovide a pair r of coil springs 20 and 21 to accomplish this e coil spring 20 Ais wound about one portion of the ivot rod 18 and has one extremit extendlng over the lid member 17, the ot er end extending on the outer side of the plate 13, thereby havin a tendency to force the lid ina downwa position as shown by the numeral 22 in Figure 3. The
second coil spring 21 is wound about the op y posite section of lid 17 while e opposite end thereof extends downwardly within the casing, this spring exerting 'a tension against the lid 17 and tending to force the same u wardly as shown in otted lines at 23. t is necessary. that these springs be of uniform strength in order to normally retain the hd in the horizontal position although capable of being readily swung up or down by con` tact of the toothbrush.
In order to retain the brushesseparated for sanitary purposes I provide a partition plate'24 having a longitudinalopening 25 out from the central portion thereof, this thepivotrod and has one extremity-engatgmg the vlower portion of the lio partition being mounted transversely across the lower portlon of the casing to form separate stalls for the brushes.
As it is customa to hang the brush container upon a WalllIr provide a back plate 26 secured tothe upper portion of the casin back' having formed .on the upper centra ortion an ear 27 having .a suita le opening ormed therein as shown at 28 for the inlsertion of a nail or retaining brad.
In use, the toothbrush owner may readily Withdraw thel same from the casing by grasping the upper extremity of the handle and drawing same upwardly, the brush head and bristles forcing the upper lid 17 to open position and-permitting withdrawal of the same. When returning the 'brush the lid is readily forced downwardly in a like manner and the brush deposited l1n its proper compartment. This device obviously furnishes a container which is readily accessible and extremely sanitary, providing separate compartments ifor each tooth brush deposited therein and also providing means for readily dryin the bristles. The transparent front wa enables the owner to readily identi fy his brush and prevent the use of anothers brush, it being intended that the brush be deposited in the same compartment at all times.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described' is to be taken as the preferred example of the same, and that various changes as to the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the l spirit of the invention or the scope ofjhe suloined claim. r i
1 aving thusclescribed my invention, I
c aim:
