Description

June 28, 1932. MANQHA 1,865,267
HOLDER FOR TOILET ARTICLES Filed Sept. 26, 1931 INVENTOR 15 7 BY M i I Z21 MW ATTORNE S Patented June 28, 1932 UNITED s'rATss PATENT OFFICE JACQUES MANOHA, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO HOUBIGANT, INC., OF NEW YORK,
N. Y., CORPORATION on NEW. YORK HOLDER FOR TOILET ARTICLES Application filed September 26, 1931. Serial No. 565,247.
This invention relates to improvements in holders for toilet articles and more particularly to improvements in compacts.
A special object of the invention is the provision of an improved compact which has contained therein and as an integral part thereof, a comb for the hair.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a compact so constructed that the top or base of the compact holds the comb for the hair, without noticeably increasing the size or weight of the article.
Further objects of the invention will be apparent from the specification and drawing in which Fig. 1 is a perspsctive view showing my improved toilet case.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view along the line Fig. 3 is a sectional view along the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view similar to the view in Fig. 1 showing the comb partly removed from the case.
Fig. 5 1s a perspective vlew of a modlfied form of container in which the top panels present in the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 4 have been changed to a single continu- I ous curved panel, the comb being held in the central part of the curved portion of the top.
10 designates the cover of the compact, 11 the base thereof, and 12 the raised portion of the top in which the comb 14 is held within the compact 13.
15 designates the thumb piece by which the comb may be readily Withdrawn from the compact. 16 represents the curved portion of the modified form of container shown in Fig. 5 in which the comb is held under the central portion of the top of the compact, which is formed in a single curve.
I am aware that it has been well known to fit toilet cases with combs for the hair and an objection to the presence of combs in the average toilet case is that such a comb is apt to take considerable space and come into contact with the liquid or solid toilet requisites, is apt to become soiled and is difficult to clean.
ed a toilet case in Which the comb is held out of contact with the articles in the case itself and without noticeably increasing the" bulk of the case. In the forms shown in Figs. 1 and 4 of the drawing, this is done by making a central panel slightly raised and preferably of a color contrasting with the panels on each side which are at the ordinary level at the top of the box. In appearance then, a case of this kind is the same as in other toilet cases, the central panel being slightly raised, apparently for purposes of making a more pleasing design but actually also serving as a container for the comb which is entirely hidden in the panel itself, but may be withdrawn by means of the thumb piece 15. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the comb'is concealedbeneath the central portion of the top of the compact.
On the underside of the cover is inserted the usual toilet mirror which effectively conceals the underside of the comb when the case is opened.
It is obvious that a similar arrangement may be made in the base of the compact for holding the comb without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim is:
1. Ina toilet case, thecombination of a toilet case cover and a base of a toilet case, each plates, an opening in one of said side walls, lo
cated below one ofsaid plates to permit entering a toilet comb and means to position the comb in said cover.
3. In a toilet case, the combination of a toilet case cover and a base of a toilet case,
each comprising a panel, even-surfaced on the" ..v
outside, side walls on the outer edges of both said panels, a rectangular opening in one of said side walls located near the inner surface 100 of the respective panel thereof to permit the entering of a toilet comb and means to position the comb on said panel.
4;. In a toilet case, the combination of a toilet case cover and a base of a toilet case, said cover comprising a curved top plate even-surfaced on the outside and a side wall 011 the outer edges of said top plate, a mirror located in said cover near the inner surface of said top plate and means to permit entering a comb through said side wall and position the same between said inner surface and said mirror.
5. In a toilet case, the combination of a toilet case cover and a base of a toilet case each having a pan-shaped formation, means to retain the hollow form of said cover against the hollow form of said base so as to produce a toilet case in closed formation, a comb located within said case and means to permit said comb to be extracted without opening said case.
6. In a toilet case, the combination of a toilet case cover and a base of atoilet case each having" uniform outside surface, means to retain said case in an open or closed position, a comb located within said case and means to permit said comb to be withdrawn without opening said case.
7. In a toilet case the combination of a rectangular toilet case cover and a correspondi119; base of a toilet case, each having top-surfaces which are even on the outside, side walls on the outer edges of both said cover and base, an opening in one of said side walls and located on one of the shorter sides of the case, to permit entering a toilet comb into the interior of the toilet case.
8. In a toilet case. the combination of a cover and a base, each having a rectangular pan-shaped formation, means to retain the hollow form of said cover against the hollow form of said base, so as to produce a toilet case in closed formation, said retaining means to be located on the longer part of the rectangular formation, a comb in the interior of said case and an opening to permit said comb to be extracted, said opening to be located on one of the short sides forming the rectangle of the case.
9. In a toilet case, the combination of a toilet case cover and a base of a toilet case, each having a rectangular and uniform outside surface, means to retain said case in an open or closed position, an opening located on one of the short sides of the rectangle of the case, a comb located in the interior of the case, a thumb piece on said comb. protruding from said opening, to be grasped, so as to draw said comb through said opening without opening said case. a
10. In a toilet case, the combination of a toilet case cover and abase of a toilet case, each having an even outside surface, means to retain said case in an open or closed position,
