Description

UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIUEO DANIEL B. SNOW, OF SOUTH LANCASTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAD-IRONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,264, dated September 22, 1874'; application filed January 23, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL B. SNow, of South Lancaster, in the county of WVorcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Sad-Irons, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to the method of attaching handles, the holding part of which is made of wood, or any non-conductor of heat, so that they may be quickly and easily removed to be attached to other stocks when heated in succession; and consists in the employment of spring-braces for the side, and a spring arch-piece, whereby the side pieces are operated, all of which will be hereinafter explained.
In the drawing forming part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a View of the bandle detached from the stock. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the stock on w 00 of Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the stock.
A is the iron stock, which is of the ordinary shape, having on top two recesses, A, which have lips a a. B is the handle, made of wood or any non-conductor of heat, and, for simplicity of construction, is fastened to the ends of the side pieces B B, which have at their lower ends the catches b b, which are beveled and notched to correspond with the lips to a of the recesses A. These side pieces B B are made of spring-steel, and are united by an arch spring-piece, C, which has formed at its crown a flattened space, 0, for the fingers of the hand to clasp, for the purpose of forcing the same upwardly to the handle B, which action causes the side pieces to approach each other, and thus withdraw the catches b b from the notches and lips a a, which can be easily done, as an inspection of the drawings will demonstrate.
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
The combination of the handle B, spring sides B B, having catches b b, and archspring 0, with sad-iron stock A, as and for the purpose described.-
Dated the 19th day of January, A. D. 1874.
DANIEL BASSETT SNOW.
