has been fired, and a new cartridge is fed Yfrom the magazine into position ready tobe placed into the chamber when the bolt 1 is moved forward. Y
To close the action, the hand engaging the grip of the rifle is closed thereby forcing the finger lever 14 upwardly and through the link 13 the locking lever 4 is returned to normal position and slides upon theV incline 23 and engages the abutmenty 22, thereby pushing the bolt 1` forwardly and compressing the spring 19 and pushing the cartridge into the chamber. As the bolt 1 is moved forwardly, the cooking piece 25 engagesthe trigger sear 26 and is held back thereby. When the bolt 1 has reached its-forward position, the locking lever 4 clears the upper end of the incline 23and rises, thereby forcing the locking bolt 7 upward, and through the action of the cams or inclines 8 acting on the lugs 21 of the collar 20, forces said Collar further ahead, thereby compressing the spring 19. When the locking lever 4 has reached the limit of its upward move-f ment, the catch 17 engagesthe stop 18 of the linger lever and the action is fully locked and ready to be fired.
When the locking lever 4 reaches its lowest position, a projection 27 on the link 13 bears against the rear end of the finger lever catch 17Fig. Jb-forcing it downward and causing the opposite end of the catch to engage the trigger 16 which is thrown forward until the catch 17 clears the stop 28 which it engages, thereby holding the trigger 16 and allowing the sear 26 to rise vhigh enough to hold back the cooking piece 25 when the bolt 1 goes ahead.` The linger lever catch spring 29 tends to hold the catch 17 in posi- Y tion until the last motion of the finger lever 14 closing releases it. The stop shoulder`28 prevents the trigger 16 fromV being accidentally pulled before the actionis fully closed. When the collar 20 comes' to the Vrear lower part takes against a projection 30 on cooking piece 25 forcing the firing pin 31 to the rear assisted `by theVVV projection 3 `on theforwardend ofthe locking lever 4 :bearing fagainst the.' firing pin cap 32, :thereby .preventing the` firing pin from `touching the catridge until-the action is It isobservedfthat an-yftype of boxl maga zine may be used, also any type of extractor, that illustrated forming no part of the invention. lVhen action is open spring 19 doesnot fill space allotted to it. This enables the first closing movement to be easily effected. As bolt 1 goes forward the locking lever will become more nearly horizontal whichY gives Agreater leverage to overcome tension of the springs.
To remove bolt to yclean the Vbarrel first open the action; thenwith the left hand push the bolt forward until link 13 and lock'- ing lever rise high enough to allow rear end of catch 17 to rise by bearing on the forward end of same with the first finger of the right hand. Then with the thumb of the right hand force link 13 toward trigger guard 15a, (squeezing catch and link together) at the same time pulling bolt to the rearwith the left hand by the cooking piece 25. Rear end of locking lever 4 will then come down through slot through which link 13 works allowing forward pivoted end of lever 4 to drop down in rests 33 provided. 'Bolt now slips out of receiver. To 'replace bolt reverse operations. This is simple and quickin operation.
