L'The, shirriat this side' ,Qff the Y opening 'is inserted between the' strips' 1Y0 @dell enesrdhefetp, .the Sewing f3# The outer flap 8, to which the pleat 5 is fastened comprises a strip 14 which is similar to the strips 10 and 11. The vertical edges of strip 14 are folded back in a manner similar to the vertical edges of either strips 10 and 11. The pleat 5 comprises a strip 15 having its edges 16 and 17 folded back and a reinforcing member 18 retained within the strip 15, the edges 16 and 17 being turned back over the edges of the reinforcing member 18. Strip 14 is securedon the back side of the pleat 5 and is sewed thereto by means of the stitching 19 and 20. This side of the shirt adjacent to the opening 4 is inserted between theY strip 14 andthe Vpleat 5, and is sewed to these members by means of the stitching indicated at 20. The construction above'described is employed along the edges of the shirt at the opening 4, the pleat however running the entire length of the shirt. Pleat 5 comprises the strip 15 andthe reinforcing member 18. This pleat preferably extends below the waist line and may terminate atthe eXtreme lower end of vthe shirt. ,.We have found that the strip thus extended below thewaist line will tend to prevent the shirt from blousing or pulling upwardly out of the trousers at the waist line. At the same time, the pleat serves to give the shirt a finished appearance such as a shirt opening the entire length of the front has. p
Inorder to provide a reinforcement for I' the flaps 8 and 9 where the opening 4 terminates at the lower end so that the stitching willrnot pull loose if the shirt should be accidentally pulled at this point, we contemplate folding the lower ends of the strips P1() and ,11 along `a diagonal line, as indicatedat 22, and then sewingthe same by ,means of the vstitching 23. At this point the stripr 14 is likewise turned along a diagonal line 24 `and sewed ina like manner by the stitching 24. The resulting triangular portions as seen in Fig. 2 are laid against each other and securely sewed together, thereby providing a fullness which suitably holds the stitching and prevents any strain on the shirt from ripping the stitching loose at this point. This fullness, however, is not noticeable atthe front of the shirt, inasmuch as the pleat 5 extends over the same and conceals it. r Y In Fig. 5, we have illustrated aV shirt embodying our inventionV wherein the waist Kline' is indicated Vby the dotted line 25 andthe pleat 5 is shown as terminating at a point slightly below the same. 1We have found that we are able to obtain the Aadvantages ofholding the shirt within the Ytrousers as long as the pleat extends below this waist line. However, we prefer extending it to .the extreme end of the shirt as indicated in Fig. 1; f r i Without further yelaboration the foregoing will so fully explain the gist of our invention that others may, by applying current knowledge, readily adapt the same for use under varying conditions of service, without eliminating certain features which may properly be said to constitute the essential items of novelty'v involved, whichitems are intended to be defined and secured to us by the following claims.
We claim:
