IBABY WALKER 0R ROLLING CHAIR.
Application. filed September 2'7, 15523.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that we, S'rnvn B. ZUNAo and JOHN I. Vanni-ion, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Coaldale, in the county of Schuylkill and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baby l Valkers or Rolling Chairs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in baby walkers or rolling chairs wherein a foot board carrying radial projecting legs having casters upon the lower faces thereof forms a seat, a child being confined thereon by a frame work carried by the platform seat.
The invention embodies in a-baby walker or rolling chair of the type above described, the idea of mounting the supporting casters in a manner to cause the walker or chair to slightly tilt forwardly which will have a tendency to assist a child in propelling the same with more perfect control thereover.
With the above general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists of the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing, wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views- Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a baby walker or rolling chair constructed in accordance with the present invention,
Figure 2 is a top plan view showing the laterally extending feet supporting casters and the base plate forming the feet, and
Figure 3 is a vertical cross sectional view taken on line IHIH of Fig. 1 showing the fender board carried by the bottom or platform seat with the lower face thereof oppositely beveled at each end supporting the casters with the beveled surfaces providing a slight forward inclination of the platform seat.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing, there is illustrated a baby walker or rolling chair embodying a base platform or seat 1 substantially circular in plan view with the forward edge thereof at opposite sides of the fender, slightly concaved and beveled as at 2 to accommodate and position the legs of a child. The support for the platform seat 1 embodies a pair Serial No. 665,123.
of forward legs 3 extending laterally from the opposite forward sides of the platform seat, as shown in Fig. 2, the outer end of each leg 3 carrying a freely rotatable caster 4.
The intermediate support for the platform seat 1 includes the provision of a dovetailed groove 5 in the bottom face of the feet 1 as shown in Fig. 1, into which groove a dove-tailed strip or bar 6 is slidably positioned, the strip being flush at its forward end with the forward edge of the seat 1 and extending rearwardly thereof to provide a rear foot 6 as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, fastening devices 7 passing through the strip or, bar 6 and entering the platform seat 1 for anchoring the same in position in the groove 5 as shown in Fig. 3. In order to provide for a slight forward inclination of the platform seat 1, the lower face of the bar 6 is beveled as at 8, while the rear end of the foot o supports a caster 9. It will therefore be seen that the device is supported upon the three casters 1 and 9 in a substantially triangular arrangement with the casters widely separated to prevent change in the tilted position of the device during the use thereof.
A bodyguard and support is carried by the platform feet 1, suitably spaced perpendicular legs 10 carried by the seat 1 supporting at the upper ends thereof, a body enclosing ring 11 while a center rod 12 is secured between the forward edge of the ring 11 and the platform feet 1 that is adapted to be straddled by the child in positioning the legs in the forward beveled edges 2 of the seat.
From the above detail description of the device, it is believed that the construction and operation thereof will at once be apparent, it being noted that the platform seat 1 carries outwardly directed legs 2 and 6 that carry roller casters upon the lower faces thereof providing a convenient rolling support for the device. The superstructure embodying the perpendicular legs 10 and ring 11 supported at the upper ends thereof confine a child within the device, the forward beveled edges 2 of the platform feet 1 affording a convenient rest for the childs legs and also providing suflicient space for freedom of movement in propelling the device.
While there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope thereof as claimed.
What is claimed as new is In a baby walker or rolling chair, a platform seat, outwardly directed legs carried thereby, a caster carried by each leg, the for ward edges of two of the legs and the forward edge of the platform seat eXtending transversely of the forward edge of the platform seat, and a body guard frame mounted on the platform seat, the other leg including a bar having interlocking connections with the lower face of the platform seat and extending rearwardly thereof presenting a triangular foot arrangement for the platform seat, the lower edge of the bar being beveled to provide a forward tilt to the platform seat.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures;
STEVE B. ZUNAC. JOHN I. VANDACK.
