Description

Aug. 6, 1963 B. RIMLAND TOY ROCKING DEVICE Filed April 23, 1962 INVENTOR. BERNARD R/MLA/VD A TTORNEYS United States Patent 3,100,114 TOY RUCKING DEVICE Bernard Rimland, 5348 W. Falls View, San Diego, Calif. Filed Apr. 23, 1962, Ser. No. 189,563 2 Claims. (Cl. 27256) The present invention relates to a toy and more particularly to a toy rocking device having a seat for one or more people.
The toy rocking device of the present invention includes a seat for one or more people and two elongated floor engaging rockers which support the seat. These rockers are spaced from one another laterally. At least part of the floor engageable surface of one of the rockers has a curvature which is diiferent from that of the curvature of the floor engageable surface of the other rocker at an approximate right angle with respect to a direction which extends lengthwise of the first mentioned rocker.
Further features and the advantages will be apparent from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing wherein a preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated.
In the drawing:
FIG. 1 is a side view of the new toy rocking device;
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of the device;
FIG. 3 is a View similar to FIG. 1, but showing the right end of the device tilted downwardly;
FIG. 4 .is an end view of the device;
FIG. 5 is a View similar to FIG. 4, but showing one end of the device tilted downwardly; and
FIG. 6 is another view similar to FIG. 4, but showing the other end of the device tilted downwardly.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, the toy is shown at 20 having a seat 22 for one or two persons of any suitable configuration having handles 24 and which is supported by two floor engaging rockers 26 and 28 on which the device is rocked. The rockers are elongated and are spaced laterally of one another. Suitable braces 30 interconnect the rockers.
At least part of the floor engageable surface of one of the rockers has a curvature which is different from that of the curvature of the floor engageable surface of the other rocker at an approximate right angle with respect to a direction which extends lengthwise of the 3"10 0,1 14 Patented Aug. 6, 1 963 said one runner. This difference can be accomplished in several different manners as for example, the floor engaging surface on one runner may have a different shape than the other. They may be provided with an inverted hump as shown at 32 or a section 34 having a larger radius than parts of the remainders of the floor engaging surfaces. Also, if desirable, the rockers can be offset lengthwise of the device, i.e., one runner 26 extends farther toward the left than the runner 28, as viewed in the drawings.
Thus, it is apparent from the foregoing that there has been provided a rocking device which, when rocked, causes a complex movement to be imparted to the rider as the rider rocks in either direction.
While the form of embodiment herein shown and described constitutes preferred form, it is to be understood that other forms may be adopted falling within the scope of the claims that follow.
I claim:
1. A toy rocking device comprising:
(A) A seat;
(B) and two elongated floor engaging rockers supporting the seat, said rockers being laterally spaced from one another,
(a) at least part of the floor engageable surface of one of the rockers having a curvature diflerent from that of the curvature of the floor engageable surface of the other rocker at an approximate right angle with respect to a direction which extends lengthwise of the said one rocker.
2. A toy rocking device comprising:
(A) A seat;
(B) and two elongated floor engaging rockers supporting the seat, said rockers being laterally spaced from one another,
(a) one of said rockers being offset lengthwise of the device relative to the other rocker.

Claims (1)

1. A TOY ROCKING DEVICE COMPRISING: (A) A SEAT; (B) AND TWO ELONGATED FLOOR ENGAGING ROCKERS SUPPORTING THE SEAT, SAID ROCKERS BEING LATERALLY SPACED FROM ONE ANOTHER, (A) AT LEAST PART OF THE FLOOR ENGAGEABLE SURFACE OF ONE OF THE ROCKERS HAVING A CURVATURE DIFFERENT FROM THAT OF THE CURVATURE OF THE FLOOR ENGAGEABLE SURFACE OF THE OTHER ROCKER AT AN APPROXIMATE RIGHT ANGLE WITH RESPECT TO A DIRECTION WHICH EXTENDS LENGTHWISE OF THE SAID ONE ROCKER.
