Y 'rnnfr'nn BOARD.
Application led August 1, 1922. Serial No. 578,931.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, MIKE SMEREGHANSKT, a citizen of Ukraine, residing atBerwick, in the county of Columbia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Teeter Boards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in teeter boards and has particular reference to that type of amusement devices wherein the pivotally mounted or teetering board has coil springs associated therewith to cause the same normally to assume a horizontal position.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a spring cushioned teeter board wherein the pivotally mounted board carries a seat portion at each end thereof with foot rests and hand rails for use by the occupant.
With the above general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists of the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed. f
In the drawing, wherein like 'reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a teeter board constructed in accordance with the present invention showing the spring cushion mounting for the teeter board and the seat portion at each end thereof,
Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on line II-II of Fig. 1 showing the base supporting frame and the standard supporting the teeter board, and
Figure 3 is a vertical cross sectional view taken on line III-III of Fig. 1.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing, there is illustrated a teeter board embodying a base supporting frame preferably of rectangular construction embodying side rails 1 and end rails 2, a transverse base plate 3 extending between the side rails 1 as clearly lshown in Fig. 2 and being suitably connected thereto. The opposite ends of the base frame are reinforced bythe crossed brace bars 4 anchored'at their ends to the side and end rails 1 and 2 and to said transverse base plate 3 as clearly illustrated.
A centrally positioned perpendicular standard 5 is mounted upon the base plate 3, the same being substantially rectangular in cross section and provided with oppositely extending lateral 'reinforcing ribsr 6, the upper end of the standard 5 being bifurcated to provide side arms 7 tapering upwardly as shown in Fig. 1.
A teeter board 8 is positioned between the side arms 7 of the base standard and is pivotally mounted Aon the cross bolt 9 with the weight of the board 8 evenly distributed at opposite sides of the pivot bolt. head block 10 carrying a depending tongue 11 is disposed between the upper ends of the side arms 7 and is anchored therein as at 12, clearly shown in Fig. 1. Each end of the teeter board 9 carries a seat portion 13 provided with aback rest 14, foot rests 15 being carried by opposite sides of the boards beneath each seat while handle bars 16 are conveniently positioned to be gripped by an occupant of the seat.
The teeter board 8 is resiliently, or spring mounted for normally righting itself to a horizontal position, upwardly positioned coil springs 17 being connected as at 18 to the head 10 of the standard, while the lower ends of said springs 17 are anchored as at 19 to the upper edge of the teeterv board 8. A coil 'spring 20 is arranged at each side of the standard 5, engaging at its upper end the lower` edge of the tetter board while the lower end of said spring is'received on a pin 21 carried by the base standard 5 as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3.
From the above detail description of this device, it is believed that the construction and operation thereof will at once be apparent, it being noted that the teeter board 8 is resiliently mounted within the side arms 7, the teetering or pivoting movement of the board being cushioned by the springs 17 and 2O when moved upwardly and downwardly upon the pivot bolt 9, while the seating arrangement at each end of the board provides a comfortable riding feature. The base frame is of substantial construction and may be ground anchored if desired, while the cushion springs 17 and 2() will absorb and eliminate undue shocks or jars during the movement of the teeter board.
Whilevthere is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein Without departing from thespirit and scope arms, and cushion-*springsmounted ,between 10 of the invention as claimed.- Y' thenpper edgev ofthe `*ceeter board;4 and the What I claim as new is: head block and the lower edge of t'henstand- In a teeter board of the type described, a ardfceeuerboardA and being anchored at their 5 base frame, a perpendicular standard mountends to the teeter 'boardystandard and head ed thereon, said standard being bifurcated block.. to provide spaced side arms, a teeter board In testimony whereof I affix my signature. f pivotaily supported between said arms, a v
head block secured in the upper ends of said MIKE SMERECHANSKL
