F. coLLURA INFANTS WALKER AND STROLLER Filed March 25, 1944 @VEA/101m' oLLURA Patented Sept. 16, 1947 FFICE ENFANTS WALKER AND STROLLER Application March 25, 1944, Serial No. 528,108
1 Claim.
This invention relates to an improved baby Walker having a spring seat.
Objects of the invention include the provision of a baby walker having the additional feature of a spring or jumper seat for exercise and amusement of the baby even though the latter is too small to propel the device; the provision of an infants walker having all the usual attributes of the conventional walker and in addition presenting the usefulness of a spring or jumper seat so that the infant may bounce and exercise his legs when very young and so not capable of using the conventional walker, and when older the infant is enabled to propel the present Walker in the usual manner as well as bounce, whereby this invention combines the jumper seat and walker of the prior art in a single device which may also be propelled by an adult in the manner of a pusher.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear hereinafter.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a top plan View of a device according to the invention; and
Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the device of Fig. 1.
The present device may assume various forms but is here illustrated as comprising a single spring rod of flat wire bent to provide a pair of spaced vertically arranged U-shaped parts, each having a generally horizontal leg I and a leg l2 on a slight incline, the legs being connected by a vertical run I4. The parts l and l2 are made with the spring Wire horizontal, but at the ends of the legs I0 the wire is twisted as at I6 to form a vertical back rest portion at I8.
The free ends of the legs l2 provide support for a connecting rod 20, the ends of which journal a pair of rear Wheels 22, it being noted that the axis -of these Wheels is just slightly to the rear of the back rest I8. A pusher handle 24 in the shape of a U is connected at the ends of its legs to the ends of the parts l2. A castor or swivel wheel 26 is secured to the opposite ends of legs I2 to provide front wheels.
A fabric or the like seat 28 is secured to the legs l0 and back I8 by folding a hem 30 thereover, and this hem is detachably secured by fasteners 32. A pair of leg holes 34 are provided and in convenient location below the leg holes a removable foot rest plate 36 is provided on legs I2. It will be seen that the seat is resiliently arranged so the infant can bounce up and down while secure in the seat, and can also stand on the foot rest, both while the walker is not moving and while it is being propelled. Also, the infant may himself propel the walker when the foot rest is removed.
A play tray 38 and hand grip 40 Serve as transverse braces for the spring rods and thus the walker will be seen to be light but sturdy and well constructed.
Having thus described my invention and the advantages thereof, I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed, otherwise than as set forth in the claim, but what I claim is:
A device of the class described comprising a spring rod frame in the form of a pair of vertical, spaced, and parallel Us having one leg only of each connected to the corresponding leg of the other U, a shaft, the remaining legs of each U being mounted on the shaft, wheels on the shaft, additional wheels mounted to support the spring frame at points remote from the shaft, said spring rod being fiat and horizontal for the major portion thereof and flat and vertical at the connection between the corresponding legs to form a back rest, the latter being supported only by the spring rod frame, itself to provide vertical resiliency, a flexible seat depending from the said vertical back rest and adjacent horizontal portions of the frame, said horizontal portions forming arm rests and a pusher handle in the form of an inverted U, the ends thereof being secured to the spring frame adjacent said shaft.
