A. smPsoN LENS CLEANER Fiied March 2;, 1922 Patented Aug. 11, 1925.
UNI SITES reign ANTHONY SIMPSON, 0F FARNI-IAM, ENGLAND.
LENS CLEANER.
Application filed March 21, 1922. Serial No. 545,586.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTHoNY SIMrsoN, subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Forest Lodge, Alice I-Iolt, Farnham, Surrey, England, have invented a new and useful Improvement in and Relating to Lens Cleaners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to cleaners for spectacle lenses and the like and has for its obj ect to provide an eflicient and simple device which may be carried in a number of convenient ways.
According to my invention I provide a pair of members having cleaning surfaces and connected together for relative movement.
In order that my invention may be clearly understood and readily carried into effect, I have appended hereto one sheet of drawings illustrating same wherein Fig. 1 is a plan view of one form of cleaner according to my invention in the open position.
Fig. 2 is an edge view of Fig. 1.
Figs. 3 and 4 are plan views illustrating alternative configurations.
Fig. 5 is a view illustrating my invention as applied to a spectacle case and Fig. 6 is a view in which the cleaner is in the form of a pendant.
Referring to Fig. 1 of the drawings the cleaner comprises a pair of rigid discs 1 having secured to each of their opposing faces a disc 2 flat, or of slightly convex formation, of suitable material such as chamois leather or other equally suitable cleaning substance or material. The discs 1 are formed with rigid extensions or arms which are pivotally connected at, or near to, their extremities by means of a pin 4 suitably riveted over, or otherwise secured in position. The discs 2 of cleaning material are preferably secured to the discs 1 by a suitable adhesive, although any other suitable means of attachment may be employed.
Instead or having discs which are circular or substantially circular as in Fig. 1, opposing member 5 having a configuration sub stantially semicircular as illustrated in Fig. 3 may be employed, so that corners 6 may be provided to enable cleaning to be effected in parts which might be inaccessible by a rounded edge. Alternatively the opposing members may be oval as shown by Fig. 4 of the drawings or any other shape.
A convenient and readily accessible way of carrying out my invention is that illustrated by Fig. 5 in which the device is connected by means of the pin 4 directly to the rigid hinged cover of a spectacle case so as to fold inside the case when the cover is closed.
In Fig. 6 is shown my invention supported in the manner of a pendant, an eye 7 being provided upon the end of one of the opposing members 8 adapted to receive a chain, ribbon or other supporting means. If desired the exterior may be engraved or prepared in such manner as to give the device the appearance of an ordinary pendant.
Th opposing members 1 and 8 may be made of any suitable material.
In carrying my invention into practice I wish it to be understood that several modifications may be effected therein without de-' parting from the spirit and scope of my invention.
hat I claim is 1- The combination with a spectacle case including a rigid body and a rigid cover hinged thereto, of a lens cleaning device comprising a pair of pivotally connected rigid members adapted to be oscillated across each other, and a pivotal connection between said members and the cover of said case whereby said cleaning device may be swung outwardly of and into the case.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
ANTHONY SIMPSON.
Witnesses HERBERT LEE NAsH, ITIENRY GRAY Summer.
