Description
S. C. l TA LCUTTT Strap-Loups.
Patented Sept. 1, 1874.`
@yf/W UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL C. TALGOTT, OF ASHTABULA, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN STRAP-LOOPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,727, dated September 1, 1874 application ,filed July 11, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownv that I, S. O. TALCOTT, of Ash tabula, in the county of Ashtabula and State Y of Ohio, have invented certain' new and useful Improvements in Strap-Loops, whereof the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying 'drawings making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side view of the loop. Fig. 2 is an under side view, showing the loop attached to a curtain. Fig. 3 is a view showing the strap or tie spreadl out, by which the loop is secured to the curtain. Fig. 4 is a view showing the strap or tie locked, as when securing the loop to the curtain.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the several views.
The object of the invention is to provide a convenient andJ effective means of securing buckles and straps to loops, by the devices and arrangement thereof inthe manner hereinafter described. The nature of this invention relates to a strap-loop and buckle, and to the manner of attaching the same to the curtain of a carriage-top by means of a strap or tie. The construction of the tie and its application to the strap-loop and curtain are asfollowsthe device being an improvement of a straploop for which a patent was granted to me July, 25, 1871.
The strap-loop referred to consists of a piece of a sheet metal, so cut and bent as form a loop, A, Fig. l, to receive the end of a strap passed through the buckle B, as indicated by the dotted lines a. The buckle-tie C forms a portion of the same piece of metal as the loop A, and is folded over the base of the buckle, as shown lat Fig. 2, being also provided with notches a to receive the tie E, which, when clamped, enters these apertures. The tie E consists of a strip of malleable material, pointed at one end, a, and slotted at the other, c. This tie passes over the lower side of the loop above the buckle-tie C, so that when .folded or clamped it will enter the notches a in the buckle-tie, the edge of the loop A being properly indented, to permit a close fold. The operative position of the tie is between the buckle and slots b', which are provided immediately in rear of the buckle-tie O. The strap to which the loop A is to be secured is placed upon the device as shown at Fig. 3. The ends a.' and c of the tie E are bent upright and forced through the leather; they are then bent toward each other, and the tongue a passed `throu gh the slot b and folded back over the'end c, as shown at Fig. 4, thus securely attaching the buckle-tie and leather to the loop A, as shown at Fig. l. The entrance of the tie into the notches of the buckle-tie C serves to secure the buckle in place, and then, being clamped over the leather, the same construction affords a better attachment than any of like order heretofore known.
What I clairn as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The loop A, provided with the buckle-tie C, having the notches a', in combination with the tie E, constructed as specified, and arranged to operate between the buckle and slots b of the loop, all substantially as and for the purpose specified.
SAMUELO. TALGOTT.
