PA ENT; OFFICE.
CLARENCE B. DAVIDSON, or UNIoNvILDE, MISSOURI.
anvimtrrsmev DEVICE AND Maren HOLDER.
Application filed becember 1a, 1924/ Serial No. 755,723.:
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I. CLARENCE B. DAVID- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Unionville, in the county of Putnanr and .State of Missouri, have invented new. and
' useful Improvements in Advertising-De vices-and Match Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a cheaply constructed but strong and durable pocket match safe which is also designed for employment as an advertising medium.
A further object is to produce a pocket match safe comprising a flexible cover having one of its ends designed to be'received beneath the other end when in foldedcondition, said cover having fixed in one of its ends a match holder whose outer portion is formed of a continuous strip, the ends of which being connected to centrally disposed plates or strips, corrugated strips being arranged between the plates and the sides of the strips, and the space between the confronting faces of the plates providing a pocket for a partition upon which is imprinted advertising matter, the pockets provided between the corrugated strips serving for the reception of the non-headed ends of matches. 7
To the attainment of the foregoing and other objects which will present themselves as the nature of the invention is better understood, reference is to be had to the drawing which accompanies and which forms part of this application.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement.
Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view approximatelyon the line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a perspective View of the match holder.
The cover of my improvement may be made of any desirable" material, such as cardboard or metal. The cover is formed from a single strip of material and is bent upon itself to provide a back 1, a top 2, a
front flap 3;extending from the top, a bottom and a front flap 5 extending from the headed ends of match stems 11.
other desired material.
' -bottom. The front section 5 is of-a materially less length than the front section 3 and when'the cover is'folded in rectangular shape, the end of the front section 3 is designed to be received beneath the end of the shorter front section 5, and the pressure between these lapping ends is sufficient to 1 hold the same associated. This pressure is occasioned by described.
In the pocket provided between the short front setion 5, the bottonwl and the back 1 there is received the match holder which is illustrated in detail in Figure 4 of the drawing. The match holder comprises an outer strip of suitable material which has its ends rounded and its free edges disposed in lapping relation and connected together. This provides a substantially rectangular casing 6. Arranged centrally in the casing and connected to the rounded ends thereof there are spaced plates 7 and 8. The plates are closely related and are designed to receive therebetween a division plate or strip 9. The strip 9 has on its outer face advertising indicia, as has also the front 3 and if necessary the back of the device. The front 3 is really in the nature of a flap and will for convenience be hereinafter so termed.
In the compartments provided between the outer faces of the plates 7 and 8 and the sides of the casing 6 there are arranged corrugated strips 10, the corrugations in the said strips providing pockets for the non- Preferably, and as disclosed in Figures 1 and 3 of the drawing, the casing 6 and the elements means which will presently be carried thereby are retained in the cover neath the front section 5 when the device isin closed position. The plates 7 and 8 may be constructed of paper, cardboard, metal or The matches may have their stems of wood or parafiined paper, and may be adhesively sustained in the pockets provided therefor.
Having described the invention, I claim As a new article of manufacture, a match safe comprising a cover made from a single 5 strip of material bent upon itself to provide a spaced back and front, one portion of the front being of a greater length than the other and providing a flap, a casing secured between the front and back of the cover at the lower end thereof, spaced longitudinal plates in the casing, corrugated sheets between the plates and the sides of the casing,
and said plates designed to receive therebetween a division strip.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
CLARENCE B. DAVIDSON.
