IMPROVEMENT IN PULLEY-BLOCK HANGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent 0. 154,674, dated September 1, 1874; application filed August 10, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RAY HOWLAND, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a newand Improved Pulley-Block Hanger, of which the following is a specification:
My invention is an improvement upon the device for which Letters Patent No. 60,758 were granted G. B. and G. Lewis, January 1, 1867.; and it consists of a U or equivalentshaped bar, to the bottom of which the pulleyblock is attached, and having upon the insides of the upper ends of the branches jointed catches, with which adjusting-screws are combined in such manner that the hanger can be readily and firmly attached to any overhead beam by placing the catches one on each side of the beam, and pressing them against the sides by the screws. The object is to provide a simple and efficient hanger for use in warehouses, by which to suspend the pulley-blocks or hoisting-tackle temporarily over any part of the floor, which is often required for hand:
ling and piling packages, &c.
The drawing is a side elevation of my improved hanger, and a section of a beam, showing the manner of attaching the hanger.
A represents the bar, from which the block B is suspended, said bar being of U or any equivalent form, whereby its ends will extend along up both sides of a beam, 0, while the middle portion hangs below, and at each upper end it has a catch, D, pivoted on it, so as to hang inside upon the point of an adj Listingscrew, L, which screws through the bar a little below the end, to press the catches into the sides of the beam, in the manner clearly indicated in the drawing, thus holding firmly so as to support any amount of weight, according to the strength of the bar, but so that it can be readily detached by turning back the screws a little, and giving the bar a slight blow upward with a mallet or hammer. The hanger is also adapted for suspending other objects.
Having thus described in y invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the pivoted catches D and adjusting-screws E with a bar, A, substantially of the form represented, and having a pulley-block or other object to be suspended connected to'it, as described.
RAY HowLAun.
