Be it known that I, MARTIN CODY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Scaffold- Hanger, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to improvements in hangers for suspending scaolds from buildings or walls, the object being to providel a hanger so constructed that in addition to the usual hoisting and lowering tackle employed auxiliary tackle may be suspended therefrom and engaged with the scaffold and serve not only to hold the scaold close to a wall, but also serve .as a safety device should the ropes of the hoisting or lowering tackle be broken or become loose.

I will describe a scaffold-hanger embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the iigures.

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing scaffold-hangers embodying my invention as in use. Fig. 2 is an end view thereof. Fig. 3 shows a hanger of modified form, and Fig. 4 shows the same in use.

Referring first to the example of my improvement shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the hanger comprises a depending portion l, having an eye 2, in which a block 8 maybe engaged, and connecting with this block 3 is the usual hoisting and lowering rope or tackle 4. Extended rearward from the upper end of the depending portion l is an anchoring member 5. This anchoring member, as shown, is arranged at right angles to the depending portionand is designed to engage over the cornices, as indicated in Figs. 1 and 2, and to be attached to a chimney or other like support on a roof. Extended laterally from the depending portion l is a bar 6, the end 7 of which is turned inward at right angles to the bar, and this inwardly-extended portion is provided with an eye to receive the suspending-hook 8 of a single block 9, with which the auxiliary or safetyrope 10 engages. This safety or auxiliary rope is passed around the scaifold,and its end may be engaged with the scaffold-sling or be extended downward and be secured upon any stable projection. As the block 9 is carried inward from the main block 3 the safety-rope 10 will serve to draw the inner side of the scaffold toward or against the building, it being understood, of course, that the portion 7 of the hanger extends underneath the cornice.

In Figs. 3 and 4 the hanger is arranged for engaging with a head-wall. It comprises the depending portion l, similar to that first described; but its anchoring upper end is made hook-shaped, as indicated at 1l, to engage over the .top of the wall. In this instance the end of the laterally-extended bar 6 is turned outward, as indicated at l2, and provided with an eye to receive the hook of the block 9.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A device of the character herein described, comprising a depending portion having an anchoring device at its upper end, and provided with means for the support of a hoisting-tackle, and a bar extending laterally from said depending portion, having a member at an angle thereto provided with means for the support of a safety-tackle.

A device of the character herein described, comprising a plurality of disconnected depending members supporting a hoisting-tackle, anchoring devices therefor, and a longitudinal bar extending from one side of each of said members intermediate of their ends, each bar having a branch at an angle thereto and supporting a safety-tackle.

A device of the character herein described, comprising a plurality of disconnected depending members, anchoring devices therefor, and a longitudinal har extending from one side of each of said members, each bar being intermediate of the ends of the depending member and having an inwardly-extending branch supporting at its inner end a safety-tackle.
