Description

Patented July 14, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT oFncE.
"GILBERT C. BACON, OF STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNO'R- TO ATLAS POWDER COM- PANY, F WILMINGTON, DELAWARE, A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE.
I PYROXYLIN-COATED FABRIC.
No Drawing.
go all whom it may concern:
Be it known that GILBERT C. BACON, c1t1- zen of the United States, residing at Stamford, in the c0unty .of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pyroxylin- Coated Fabrics, of which the following ISS a specification.
This invention relates to the process of coating a decorative fabric with a thin pyroxylin solution. It relates more particularly to that type of coated, or. decorative fabrics described in United States Patent No. 1,450,367. Coated fabrics of this type are formed by using a figured fabric, as crtonne, for example, though any suitable fabric may be employed, and applying a thin coating of pyroxylin, which, after drying, may be embossed or otherwise finished. In the manufacture of material of the character mentioned, the desire is to produce an article that will be unaffected by' light, will retain its original color, and will produce no harmful effect upon the-pyroxylin coating. I have discovered that by using a dye or dyes, of that class of dyes, known as inda'nthrene series, in the preparation of the fabric to be coated with a thin pyroxylin solution, it will not be affected by light, or fade or discolor or otherwise injuriously affect the pyroxylin coating as is the case with some of the commonly used dyes.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as newand desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A figured fabric which has been printed or dyed with that class of dyes known as I the indanthrene series, having a thin coating of pyroxylinmaterial.
2. A figured fabric which-has been printed or dyed with that classof dyes known as the indanthrene series, having a thin coat- Application filed January 3, 1925. Serial No. 449.
ing of transparent pyroxylin, the surface of which, is embossed with a fine pebble grain.
3. A fabric which has been printed or dyed with that class of dyes known as the indanthrene series, having a design imprinted thereon, and having a coating of a thin, transparent pyroxylin composition.
4. A fabric which has been printed or dyed with that class of dyes known as the indanthrene series, having a design imprinted thereon, and having a coating of a thin,
transparent pyroxylin composition, the surindanthrene series, having a design printed thereon, and a thin coating of transparent or semi-transparent. pyroxylin, the surface of which is embossed with. a design corre' sponding to .,the figures printed on the fabric. g g
7. A fabric which has been printed or dyed with that class of dyes known as the ind-anthrene series, having a design imprinted thereon, and having a thin coating of a transparent pyroxylin composition, the surface of which is embossed with a fine pebblegrain.
In testimony whereof he afiiaes his signature in the presence of two witnesses.
