[Also in Divisions C3 and G2] An imitation wood grain is applied to articles of e.g. metal, hardboard, plastics material or chipboard by coating them with an opaque first material and printing on the first material with a second opaque material, lighter in colour and applied by intaglio or intaglio-offset printing. The second opaque material may comprise a mixture of soya/benzoic alkyd resin and dimethyl phthalate, with a ratio by weight of pigment to mixture of 85:15 to 15:85. An intaglio cylinder may be imaged by means of a photoresist, exposed prior to its application to the cylinder and be subsequently etched with acid. Formulµ for the first and second materials are given.
