7 Application filed June 9, 1923. Serial No. 644,59.
- To aZZwhomc't may concern and State of New Jersey, have invented a new. and Improved /Vindow or l/Vindow- 7 Screen Stop, of whichqthe following is afull, clear, and exactdesoription.
vertically sliding closure for the purpose of holding and retaining the'same in various vertically adjusted positions against casual displacement and has particular reference to a device of this character which is designed for use in connection with windows or window screens.
The outstanding object of the present inventlon resides 1n the provislon of an extremely simple and inexpensive device which when applied to a vertically sliding closure such as a screen or window sash,
functions to normally engage with the frame or guide within which the same ismounted to normally v.holdthe same in position when raised, and-which is, capable of manipulation to effect its release when it is desired to lower said closure.
More specifically the invention contemplates a window or window screen stop which includes an attaching member and a pivoted locking element, the free end of which is normally forced into engagement with the frame in which the screen or window is mounted by a spring or other suitable element which engages therewith. As a still further object the invention resides in the provision of a device of the character set forth which is readily applicable to a screen, window sash or other vertically slidable closure, and which is thoroughly reliable and highly efiicient in its purpose.
WVith the above recited and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction set forth in the following specification, particularly pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that the right is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated by the general meaning of the terms in which the claims are expressed.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a front view of the device.
,Fig. 2 is a side view of the pivoted element. f
Fig. 3 is a side view of the device.
Fig. 4- is a diagrammatic front view of the smile in applied position. Referring to the drawings by characters of reference the device includes an attaching member which consists of a strip 10 of sheet The present invention has relation to a Y stop which is adapted to be carried by a metal or any other suitable material, the iup per end of which is provided with a forwardly bent flange 11 and a downwardly bent apron 12 which is arranged in spaced parallel relation to a portion of the body. A lever 13 having a transverse central aperture 14: is arranged between the apron and the body. and is pivotally associated therewith by means of a-transverse pivot pin 15 which extends through the aperture 14 and aligned apertures 16 and 17 in the apron and body. At one of the free ends the lever 13 is provided with an enlarged head 18 and at its opposite free end with an ang'ularly disposed manipulating handle 19. A leaf spring 20 is attached to the under side of the flange asat 21 and its free end engages with the upper side of the lever between its pivotal point '15 and the manipulating handle 19 whereby the end having the enlarged head .18 is normally swung in an upward direction. The body portion of the attaching member 10 is provided with a forwardly projecting stop pin 22 with which the under side of the lever between its pivotal point 15 and the manipulating handle 19 is adapted to coact as a stop for limiting the upward swinging movement of the head 18.
In use and operation of the device the secured in flat contact to the side rail of a window sash or screen A, as illustrated in Fig. 4, with the apron disposed at the upper end and with the headed end 18 of the lever spaced from the side edge of said side rail so that the maximum space between the inner edge B of the window frame 0 is slightly less than the distance between the pivotal point of the lever and the outer end of the head 18. It thus follows that when the screen or window sash A is raised, the spring 20 functions to swing the headed end 18 of the lever upwardly, thereby forcing the same into engagement with the inner edge B of the window frame O. Due to the fact that the length between the outer end of the head and the pivotal point of the lever is greater in mi'id e ia ly. amused Posit i against gravitationalgdown vard movement ii under theirown Weight, fconiprisinga lever pivotedto the olosu're'a'rrd havingah'ead at one end and a manipulating handle "atjits opposite end, means engag'eahle with the handled end of the levr :jfor norinally swinging'said end down'and the headedferid up for engagement with the frame the closure, and means 'foiflilniting the up va'rd swinging movement of the headed end, as andfor thefpurp'os'e specified.
