FOLDING WALL TABLE.
- Application filed April 18, 1828. Serial 1T0. 681,492;
To all whom it my camera:
Be it known that I AUoUs'rUs F. Wasmom, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Huntington, in the county of Huntington and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Wall Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in folding wall tables, and the object thereof is to provide a cabinet to be installed in the wall of an apartment and which has in connection therewith a foldin table, a portion of which may be concealed in the cabinet and the other portion of which forms a door for closing the cabinet when the table is folded. Another object of the improvement is to provide a table of am 1e dimensions that may be easily and quick y disposed of in the wall of a compartment and the space ordinarily occupied by the table thus rendered available for other purposes when the use of the table is not required.
And a further object is to so construct the table that a portion of the table top may be folded while the other portion is sustained in extended position and thus render the device easy to manipulate.
These objects are accomplished by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a wall cabinet with a table embodying the invention in connection therewith, the cabinet being in section and the table being in extended position; and
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the cabinet and table, the latter being shown partially collapsed.
'lhecharacters appearing in the description refer to parts shown in the drawings and designated thereon by corresponding characters) The invention comprises a cabinet I having an open front, and a folding table comprising two folding top sections 2 and 3 which are hinged together at their abutting ends, as indicated by 4, and the rear end of the section 2 being hinged to the under side of the top 5 as indicated by 6. Upon the under side of the top section 2 is fixed a longitudinally disposed guide 7 having on each side thereof a tongue 8 that extends into a groove 9 in a. eorrt-spoiuling sliding bar it) that is lo .gitudinally movable relative to the guide. The outer ends of the bars 10 have hinged connections with a supporting frame 11, as indicated by 12, and affords support for the outer top section- 3 while sustained in extended position by the frame 11 which rests upon the floor.
In utilizing the invention the cabinet 1 is positioned in the wall of an apartment, or against the wall and is secured permanently in place with its front exposed to view. When the table is in position for use, the rear end of the section 2 is sustained by its hinged connection with the cabinet, and its outer end, and the outer top section 3 are sustained by the slides 10 which are supported by the frame 11. As the slides extend partially under each of said sections the table is prevented from saggin at the hinged connection between its sections.
In disposing of the table into the cabinet the top section 3 is folded over into the top section 2 so that the slides and frame are accessible. The frame is then folded up against the slides and is moved together with the slides into position beneath the top section 2. The parts, while thus folded, are swung into the front of the cabinet upon the hinge connection 6. When the table top is in closed position the top section 3 fits into and closes the front of the cabinet with its bottom side exposed, and the other top section, the slides and the frame are entirely concealed from view.
What I claim is In combination, a wall cabinet having an open front; a table top section having hinged support within the upper part of the cabinet; a guide longitudinally disposed on the bottom of said top section; a slide in connection with said guide and being longitudinally movable relative thereto; a hinged. frame for sustaining the slide when the top is in horizontal position; and a second top section hinged to the outer end of the former section and supported when in horizontal position by said slide, the latter top see tion being operable to close the front of the cabinet and conceal therein the other top section, slide and supporting frame.
lll ttstilnuny whereof I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
