TOILET CASE.

Application filed November 5, 1923. Serial No. 672,960.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, SOMMERFIELD E. MIL- LER, a citizen of theUnited States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, lcounty of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet Cases, of which the following is a specication.

My invention relates to improvements in toilet cases, commonly known as vanity cases, the object of the invention being to provide a simple and convenient construction of this character capable of a wide variety of uses'.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings comprises a suitable hollow body 7 in box-like form and having a hinged lid or closure 8. The lid 8 is provided with the usual mirror 9 and boxes or containers 10, 11 and 12 are rc-l movably mounted on a swinging partition 13 in the body 7, said parts constituting the usual and common parts of an ordinary toilet case commonly known as a vanity case. The. body 7 and lid 8 are provided with suitable handles 14 and suitable lock 15. These parts in themselves constitute no part of my present invention, except iu so far as they cooperate with the parts to be presently described.

An electric light bulb 16 is mounted on the partition 13 and connected in circuit with two upstanding slip contacts 17 as `from said battery when the "switch l is closed.

The batter 20 is held in place by means of a flexible older 21 adapted and arranged to, be folded vabout said battery and secured in place by means of a snap, fastener 22. A light opening 23 is provided in the lid S opposite the light 16 and a glass lens 24 is secured in said opening and whereby light will be emitted through said-lens from said electric vlight 16 when the lid 8 is closed, the arrangement being such as to then bring the light 16 directly behind or opposite the lens 24.

By this varrangement a toilet case is provided having an electric light which may be utilized either to illuminate the interior of the case and the mirror 9 when the case is opened, or also used as a flash light when the case is closed. The specic form and arrangement of parts disclosed is a simple and. effective one for the purpose.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into el'l'ect, this is eapable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore do not Wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications las come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A construction of the class described comprising an openable enclosure having provision 1n one wall for the passage of light from the interior; anelectric light in saidenclosure set opposite saidv provision and arranged to illuminate the interior thereof when opened and to emit light through said provision when the inclosure is closed; a circuit 'and switch for operating said light; a battery connected in said circuit; and a folder detachably embracing saidbattery, substantially as described.

tachable fastening for said .folder arranged to hold the same in position embracing said battery; and a switch in saidcircuit, substantially as described.

3. A toilet case comprising a two-part casing; there being a window in one part; .a lamp in the other part in position to come behind said Window; an electric circuit for said lamp` including slip contacts; a battery having terminals engaging said slip contacts; a flexible folderarran'ged to embrace -said battery and slip contacts; a detachable ing said battery; and a switch in said cirenit, substantially as described. i
