DESSIE HA. HANNA, 0F MILLEDGEVILLE, ILLINOIS.
VANITY LIGHT CASE.
Application illcd April 3,
To all whom it ma concern:
Be it known t at I, Dassin M. HANNA, a citizen -of the United States, residing at Milledgeville, in the county of Carroll and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Vanity Light Cases, of whic the following is a speelfication.
This invention has reference to vanity light cases, and its object is to provide a toilet article capable of being carried in a. Satchel or other container to provide attachments, by means of which the user. may observe her features, and may house toilet requisites, such as a powder pull and the like, and a source of light for energizing the light source as needed, while the container also houses a mirror or other means for illaminating the face of the user in the mirror.
The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawin s, forming a part of this s ecitcation, with the understanding that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawing, but may be changed and modified, so long as such changes and modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a central vertical section through the vanity case with the parts open and the battery being omitted.
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2--2 of Fi Figure 3 is a detailed section on scale than the other views.
Figure 4 is also a detailed section angles to the showing of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown a box or casing 1 of fiat contour, having a cover member 2, more shallow than the casing 1, and connected to the casing by hinges 3, so that the cover may be opened or closed as desired.
The casing 1 adjacent to one side thereof is provided with a lining 4 of felt or plush or other suitable material, and in the lined portion, there is mounted spring clips 5, appropriately spaced to elastically receive a battery element 6, which may be of the customary battery type constituting a dry cell, so that the battery may be carried a larger at right 1923. Serial No. 629,544.
spilling.
The battery is provided at one end with a contact 7, with which there enga es a terminal 8, b means of which the circuit through the attery may be completed at will by virtue of a contact member 9 having a range of sliding movement into and out of engagement with the contact member 8, and :liranged to make connection with a socket The socket 10 is designed to receive a miniature electric lamp 11, which may be caused to glow by the actuation of the switch 9, the switch having a range of movement to brin it into contact with. the terminal 8, whic is permanently in engagement with the contact 7.
The clips 5 are hold the battery,
in any-desired position, without danger of designed to receive and and maintain the latter Within the vanity case, while the cover 2 is provided with a mirror 12 in position to produce a reflection of the face of the user, with such face illuminated by the light emitted by the lamp 11.
The casing 1 is provided with a removable cover 13, so arranged as t o house .andhold a powder puff or other toilet article, the casing 1 having a snap catch 14, rising above the casing 1, so as to give access to the catch 14, and to permit the release of the cover 13, when, it 1s desired to gain access to the powder puff, which is not shown in the drawings). The cover 13 is provided with a manipulating rin 15, to permit the user to readily remove t e cover 13, when desired. The sna catch 14 is under the control of a pus button 16, accessible through a suitable portion of the casing 1 to release or retain the main cover 2 of the box.
With the structure shown and described, there is provided a vanity case containing a source of electric current, and an electric light giving element, capable of shining upon the face of the user and causing the reflection of the face in the mirror 12, so that the user may obtain a reiiection of the face when so desired and the face may be readily seen for the application of powder or cosmetics.
Havin thus described my invention, what I c aim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A vanity case comprising a casing having a compartment provlded in the rear portion thereof, a. pair of spring clips mounted in spaced relation in said compartment, s. casing adapted for removable engagement with sind spring clips for positioning within the compartment of the vanity case, said casing adapted to receive a battery, a socket connected with the casing for the rece tion of an electric bulb, and means carrie by the casing including a. switch for intel-posing the electric bulb carried in said socket between the terminals of the battery housed in the casing, said vanity case having a hin cover for providing access to the interior thereof, an a mirror mounted on the inside of said cover.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
