EDWARD H. HOEGEMANN, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
VANITY CASE.
Application filed January 11, 1921. Serial No. 436,531.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD H. HOEGE= MANN, a citizen of the United States,'and a resident of the city and county of San Frana cisco and State-of California, have invented a new and useful Vanity Case, of which thefollowing is a specification.
My invention relates to vanity cases. An object of the invention is to provide a vanity case embodying means for lighting the features of the user.
Referring to the drawings: Fig. 1 is a plan View of my vanity box when open. Fig. 2 is a side'elevation partly in section. Fig. 3 is a sectional view through a modified form of my vanity box.
Broadly considered my invention comprises a case, preferably a vanity box, having a mirror arranged therein and embodying means for illuminating the face of the user, so that advantage may be taken of the facilities provided, in dark or poorly lighted places. While I consider the vanity box as the field of broadest usefulness for my invention, I contemplate its use with other hand-carried receptacles, such for example as a hand bag, or grip. v a
My invention comprises'a case 2 of any desired type, in which a mirror 3 is arran ed,
preferably in the cover of the case. isposed in the case preferably against the wall 4 to which the mirror-holding cover is attached by any suitable means, isav lamp 7 enclosed with-in a reflector 8, so placed as to direct the light rays from the lamp toward the face of the user as shown in Fig. 2.. The
lamp is energized by a dry cell 9 removabl arranged; within an enclosure '11 forme within the case. The lamp-and cell a amnected in series to a pair of spaced resilient arms 12 between which the pivoted switch lever 13 may be pressed to close the circuit. The lever is preferably disposed in the end Wall of the case and provided with a flange 14 extending outwardly upon the upper edge thereof in position to be engaged by the edge of the cover when the cover is lowered, thus moving the switch to break the circuit and preventing the lighting of the lamp While the case is closed. Movement of the switch so lever is attended by suificient-frictional resistance to retain it 'in the open position when the cover is raised, and if the light is required, it may then be readily pulled up to close the circuit, opening automatically when the cover is closed.
In Fig. 3, I have shown a modified form of my invention, in which the lamp 7 and reflector are so placed as to direct the light first upon the mirror from which it is refieeted back to the face of the user. In other respects the structure is similar to that already explained.
I claim:
A vanity case comprising a box. and cover therefor, a mirror arranged on said cover, a lamp in the box, a refiectorfor directing the light from the lamp upon the face of the user, a cell for energizing the lamp arranged in the box, a switch'arm for controlllng he lamp circuit,* and a digitally engageable flange connected to said switch arm and overlying the edge of the box imposition to be engaged by said cover when 1t,1s closed.
' In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
