FLASH-EIGHT KEY SAFE.
Application ld August li, 1925. Serial No. 49,533,
The main object oit this invention is to provide a device which serves to make it more convenient for a person to unlock a door in the dark. llhe invention combines a dashlight and ar compartment in which keys are adapted to be stored, the flashlight being selectively illuminated when desired. Persons opening doors with keys late at night citen have some diculty9 owingr to the keys being stored in the pockets on various positicnsoi the body and a hunt for the keys is necessary, after which additional diculty is encountered in opening the doors due to the darkness. This invention provides means to illuminate the key hole oi a door and at the same time serves as a sate for the keys9 which may be opened and held at an advantageous position in iront oi the lock of the door, the key removed therefrom, and inserted into its place in the lock, this entire operation being accomplished while the lock ot the door is illuminated.-
'lihe above and other objects will vbecome apparent iu the description' below, in which characters ot reference refer to like-named parts in the drawing.
Referring briefly to l is a iront elevational view of .the combination ashlight and key sate when in sealed position.
showdcor in partly opened position to eX ose the keys.
lgure B is a cross sectional. view, Von line 3-3 'ot Figure l.
Figure i is a longitudinal .sectional ele1 vational view, taken on line 4.-4 ci liligure l.
Figure 5 is a bottom plan view oi Figure l.
Referring' in detail tothe drawing, the numeral l0 indicates an elongated hollow body or casing having semicircular ends il and l2. 'lhis casing is closed at the top by a root i3 in which a threaded sleeve ll is permanently ntted The sleeve isadapted to receive the threaded socket l5 oi a nl ement lamp l16., The bottom of the casing is closed by a door il which is hinged at 18 on thellower side ot the semi-circular portion 12 and is adapted to 'swing downwardly from. this hinge axis.
' `the door has a resilient clip .i9 formed side 10 ol the casing,
thereon which is ada ted to engage an outwardly projecting ri e 2O termed on the t e cooperation oi the ber or material.,
the drawing, liligure taken The opposite end of 'ing having a pair ol ridge and the clip when interlocked, being adapted to retain the door ll in closed po sition. @n one side ot the casing, a rectangular dishedfout portion is provided to form an open chamber 2l by the provision oi side walls 22 and a door 23, the side walls and door being an integral part of the` casing and pressed or termed from. the same mem- At the corners where the walls'22 el the dished-out chamber 2l join the remainder oi the casing l0, the edge is formed into longitudinal grooves having in clined sides into which the edges 2d also provided with inclined sides, el a slide door 25, are adapted to register. 'lhis slide door is of such a length as to close and cover the entire chamber 2l and may be slid longitudinally from place by gripping a nger ledge 2d provided at the lower end ot the door 25. ln order to permit the door 25 to be slid outwardly to uncover the chamber v2l without disturbing the closed position `the teinals ot the cell 29 are closed by a switch 30 located on the side 12 of the casing-lll.
rllhe device is used by holding the casing l@ when the person is right handed, in the left hand. The ent lamp 16 is adapted te illuminate a door lock or area' surrounding the key hole ot a door lock. 'lihe casing is held so that the slide door 25 is at the top ret the devicenv The switch 30 is then manipulated to close the circuit thru the filament lamp and cell 29 and thereafter the slide door 25 is pulled outwardly so that thev chamber 2l is exposed. lEitheroi the keys 3l desired lor openin the door is thenv extracted or removed "rom the chamber 2l, alter which the key may be inserted into the lock and the' door conveniently opened.
, ll claim vA key sale comprising a hollow casing having a lamp bulb at its :iront end, said caschambers'one chamber opening on the side, the remaining chamber lue lll)
opening at the bottom of said casing, the chamber opening at the bottom being adapted to receive a battery cell therein, means for energizing the lamp bulb 'from said cell, the `chamber opening at the sides having dove-tailed grooves extending longitudinally at the edges 0f the chamber Walls, aslide door having inclined ed es registering in said grooves, e, hinged oor covering the bottom of the casing, said hinged door havmeme@ ling a recess onv its side, said recess being' adapted to cooperate with the sliding door to permit removal of said slide'door from the casing Without disturbing the hinged door, said doors being mounted in position of mutual abutment.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
