Description
MIRROR SERCHLIGHT Filed Aug. 9, 1929 INVE 0R 8 V 8 Sze/vzefz d KoZZer Patented Aug. 26, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT oFFlcE STEPHEN' Air. ROLLER, OF SOUTH BED, INDIANA MIRROR SEARQHLIGHT Application led August 9, 1929. Serial No. 384,830.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in search lights and has more particular reference to a novel mirror search .li ht.
gThe invention has for an object the provision of a device ofthe class mentioned which is of simple durable construction, dependable in use and efficient in action, and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
The invention proposes a mirror search b light intended for the ladies and including a fiat circular case with a top mirror having a non-mirror area, a lamp positioned within the case beneath the non-mirror area and connected in a circuit with a battery also contained in the case and said circuit including a switch operable by a hand button on the outside of the case. vided for allowing a renewing of the lamp.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a device constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2, certain parts not being shown in section.
Fig. 4 is av fragmentary sectional 'view taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the battery o used in the device.
Fig. 6 is an enlarged detailed view of a portion of Fig. 3.
Fig. 7 is a horizon al sectional view taken on the line 7 7 of Fig. 6. L5 Fig. 8 is a horizontal sectional View on the line 8 8 of Fig. 6.
Fig. 9 is a similar view to Fig. 2 with the cover hinge eliminated.
The reference numeral 10 indicates gener- 0 ally the bottom container of a iiat circular taken A means may be pro-` case preferably highly ornamented and plated with gold, white goldror the like. A cover 11 is hinged as at 12 upon the container 10 and has a top window 13 closed by a mirror 14 having a plain glass area '15.
A battery is housed within the casing and consists of a flat circular body portion 16 of a diameter slightly smaller than the bottom container 10 and formed with an alcove 17 directly beneath the plain' glass area 15. The attery has a terminal tongue 18 extending beneath the alcove 17, and another terminal consisting of a button 19 on its edge. v
The bottom container 10 is ormedwith a vertical section 25 in one side, and extending from the top tothe bottom and hinged at the bottom by a hinge 26 connected with the base of the container. A spring 2f? is coaxially mounted upon the hinge and arranged to normally urge the section 25`inwards against stop lugs 28 secured to a portion of the container immediately adjacent the section 25. This arrangement per-- mits the section to lbe pivoted forwards but restrains back pivoting only to the vertical. The section 25 is formed with a finger nail grip 29 on its front face. A lampzsocket 30 is soldered upon the inner face of the section 25 and is arranged Yfor holding a lamp 31 directly beneath the non-mirror area 15 and 'is closed upon the container 10, this rsection engages over the top portion of the section 25 f for locking the latter against outward pivoting.
viewing herself and manhead 24 for closing a into the mirror for ually move the button circuit which includes battery terminal 19,
The battery may be renewed by opening the cover ,and removing the entire battery. When the tongue 18 of the battery is disengaged from beneath the socket 3G, the section. 25 may be pivoted outwards for. permitting the disengaging. If the lamp 31 burns out and it is desired to replace the lamp only. the section 32 may be manually raised for freeing the section 25 which may then be pivoted outwards as indicated by the dot and dash lines 36 inI Fig. 3, which then permits the replacement desired,
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modification's comingwithinthe scope of the inf vention as defined in the appended claims. Having thus described my invention` what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is y' 1. A mirror searchlight, comprising a fiat case with a top window, a mirror closing the window opening and formed with a small non-mirror portion, ing and beneath the non-mirror portion, a battery for illuminating the lamp, said lamp being soldered upon' a section o he side of said section being hingedly mounted and urged into normal condition by a spring and normally held against outward pivoting, by engagement with a movable section of a cover of said casing, a terminal tongue attached on said battery, and said lamp being in an operative position on the.
tongue when said section is in a normal position and disconnected from the tongue when the section is pivoted outward.
3. A mirror search light, comprising a at case with a top window. al mirror closing the window opening and formed with a small a lamp within the casing and beneath the non-mirror portion, and a battery for illuminating the lamp, said lamp being soldered'upon asection of the side of the casing, said section being hingedly mounted and urged into normal condition by a spring and normally held against outward pivoting.
4. A mirror search light, comprising a flat case with a top window` a mirror closing the window opening and formed with a small non-mirror portion, a lamp within the casing and beneath the non-mirror portion, and a battery for illuminating the lamp, said lamp being soldered upon a section of the side of the casing, said section being hingedly mounted and urged into normal condition by by a spring and normally held against outwerd pivoting, by engagement with a movable section of a cover of said casing.
In testimony whereof I have aiiixed my signature.
STEPHEN J. KOLLER.
